00:00:00
Avius is a label that they give you that tells you what you just told them you have.

00:00:04
My bowels kinda irritable.

00:00:06
Hey.

00:00:06
You have irritable bowel syndrome.

00:00:07
I just told you that.

00:00:08
What do you got?

00:00:09
What do you mean?

00:00:10
Right?

00:00:10
To me, that's like Mhmm.

00:00:11
It's like the most bogus kinda diagnostic.

00:00:12
The garbage diagnosis.

00:00:14
Yes.

00:00:14
Anytime they put syndrome on the end of something, that means they don't know what

00:00:17
it is.

00:00:18
Yeah.

00:00:18
They'll just put the first couple of words.

00:00:20
Like, these play into it and then syndrome.

00:00:23
Ta da.

00:00:23
So that's basically what it was.

00:00:25
They kind of ruled out super scary stuff, like IVD, which is irritable disease, ulcerative

00:00:30
colitis, Crohn's.

00:00:31
Welcome to the full field podcast with your host Matt tag.

00:00:35
What's up, man?

00:00:36
Who are you?

00:00:37
I'm Doctor Alfred Lesson.

00:00:38
Oh, there we go.

00:00:38
They know by now.

00:00:39
No by now.

00:00:40
Good to give a bet.

00:00:41
Love it.

00:00:42
Well, we also have a very, very accomplished and decorated guest on show today, past

00:00:46
classmate of mine in chiropractic school, good friend, doctor Anya Sizetti.

00:00:51
Said that correct?

00:00:52
Segghetti.

00:00:53
Segghetti.

00:00:53
The z is silent.

00:00:54
So pardon the butcher there.

00:00:56
Doctor Anya Segghetti is a holistic functional doctor and the founder of back to health

00:00:58
functional medicine She is the creator of the Sighetti Method and the best selling author of

00:01:05
you can't outrun your fork.

00:01:07
Doctor Anya is passionate about empowering, educating, and equipping others to take charge

00:01:12
of their own health so they can prosper, thrive, and live a life they love.

00:01:17
Doctor Anya is here on the show to dispel the myths and set the record straight when it comes

00:01:21
to fancy marketing gimmicks and provide insight on what is actually beneficial for our health

00:01:25
and what is actually dangerous for us to consume.

00:01:28
Doctor Anya, Doctor Anya.

00:01:30
Right?

00:01:31
Last time I saw you.

00:01:32
Welcome to Full Fuel.

00:01:33
We're so glad to have you on the show.

00:01:34
Awesome to be here.

00:01:35
Thank you so much.

00:01:36
Yes, ma'am.

00:01:37
It's a pleasure.

00:01:37
We're super excited I, one thing I noticed about you as soon as I met you, I'm like, wow,

00:01:42
this woman has amazing energy.

00:01:45
So I just wanna compliment you right off the bat.

00:01:47
You can feel it.

00:01:48
So it's cool.

00:01:48
We're excited that you're here with us today.

00:01:51
If you could just give us a little background on kind of the story of what led you into

00:01:54
functional medicine and then also what led you in to becoming an author So we're excited to

00:02:00
dig deep, but if you just give a little background on yourself.

00:02:02
Yes.

00:02:02
Absolutely.

00:02:03
So I think a lot of folks that find themselves in the holistic space have their own health

00:02:07
journey.

00:02:07
That they went on.

00:02:09
And that was my story too.

00:02:11
So little bit of a short version of my story is I was active duty military.

00:02:17
And then when I got out of the service, I was a surgical medical device sales rep for a

00:02:22
corporate America company.

00:02:24
And with that job comes a lot of stress, a lot of travel, At the same time, I was also

00:02:28
training for and competing in Ironman Trathlons and Ultra marathons, the longest being fifty

00:02:33
miles.

00:02:33
So, yeah, that's a fun way.

00:02:35
That's a that's

00:02:36
a freaking long race.

00:02:37
But

00:02:37
And the Ironman, also, two point four mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and then a full on it

00:02:42
there.

00:02:42
That's insane.

00:02:43
Do they call you an iron woman?

00:02:44
What it's

00:02:45
A lot of people call me an iron woman.

00:02:46
You are an iron woman.

00:02:47
You got

00:02:48
the tat.

00:02:48
You have the tat.

00:02:49
You have

00:02:49
the tat.

00:02:49
Alright.

00:02:50
You're official.

00:02:50
She's using it.

00:02:52
That's the 4th part of the triathlon is getting the tattoo.

00:02:56
You gotta finish first.

00:02:57
Right?

00:02:57
Yeah.

00:02:57
Yeah.

00:02:57
And I'm I'm crazy enough to too.

00:03:00
So I'm doing all of that.

00:03:01
Those are my hobbies.

00:03:02
Right?

00:03:02
That's my stress relief and while working in corporate America.

00:03:05
And so as I progressed with my career, They rewarded me with, promotion and more and more

00:03:11
territory.

00:03:12
So originally, I was covering the state of Florida, and then they kept adding state So

00:03:16
then I was covering 11 States in the southeast.

00:03:19
So this, as a regional sales manager, I'm going around to different locations up to four

00:03:24
different locations in a week.

00:03:26
I think that's a lot of travel.

00:03:28
And so, you know, I'm stressed.

00:03:29
I'm running around like crazy.

00:03:31
I'm, you know, taking a 4 AM flight out coming back that night, go to another location the

00:03:35
next day.

00:03:36
So I made a lot of compromises when it came to my health, primarily nutrition, because, you

00:03:41
know, airport food, hotel food.

00:03:44
It's not the best quality.

00:03:45
It's garbage.

00:03:46
It's garbage.

00:03:46
Yes.

00:03:47
Exactly.

00:03:47
So I was putting garbage in, and then I was also really pushed my body to extreme limits

00:03:52
and not feeling it properly.

00:03:52
And so I actually got really, really sick and sick in the definition of just feeling

00:04:01
exhausted, digestive issues.

00:04:03
I mean, I used to keep a note in my phone.

00:04:05
So just not to you were you were doing all this

00:04:09
Mhmm.

00:04:09
And still training for ultra marathons.

00:04:12
Yes.

00:04:13
Wow.

00:04:14
Alright.

00:04:14
And Ironman.

00:04:15
Yeah.

00:04:15
Yeah.

00:04:15
Yep.

00:04:16
Yes.

00:04:16
So All the ends.

00:04:18
Yeah.

00:04:18
You're

00:04:19
yes.

00:04:19
Sleep was terrible.

00:04:20
Stress off the charts.

00:04:21
Nutrition, terrible.

00:04:21
You know, hormones in the garbage, like, just everything, just just totally wrecking myself

00:04:28
as as best I could as quickly as possible.

00:04:31
So yeah, so I had, you know, all the digestive issues.

00:04:34
And as I was saying, I used to keep a note in my phone of all the symptoms that I had because

00:04:39
it was coming everywhere.

00:04:41
People are like, oh, what did you start with?

00:04:43
I don't know, because I started to just kind of ignore it.

00:04:45
Right?

00:04:46
I think we all do that.

00:04:46
We get some pain.

00:04:47
We'll take a pill.

00:04:48
We have digestive issues.

00:04:49
We take a

00:04:50
Yeah.

00:04:50
Or, you know, whatever, because we have to keep going, right?

00:04:53
We have to keep performing.

00:04:54
And so I I really started to just feel this and not be able to hide from it anymore.

00:05:01
And so I went to my doctor, and she ran my blood work.

00:05:05
And she says, oh, everything's normal.

00:05:07
Air quotes.

00:05:07
I like the air quotes there.

00:05:08
It's like Normal.

00:05:09
Yeah.

00:05:10
Yeah.

00:05:10
Like, how how can everything be normal?

00:05:13
I feel like complete garbage?

00:05:14
Like, how is that possible?

00:05:16
And, you know, now I realize that that's unfortunately quite common that a lot of people

00:05:20
will go and get a very basic panel done, and it doesn't really show anything.

00:05:25
So there has to be a deeper dive.

00:05:27
And so I actually turned into my own health advocate and researched about what could be

00:05:34
causing this.

00:05:35
And I went back to my doctor, and I was like, pushing her.

00:05:37
Like, can you run these additional tests?

00:05:40
Can you check-in deeper to see what's going on?

00:05:42
And thankfully, she did after a little bit of persuading.

00:05:45
I'm not very persuasive at all.

00:05:47
So, you know, she just was like, ah, sure.

00:05:48
Whatever.

00:05:50
And we found that I had antibodies to my thyroid, and my thyroid was underperforming.

00:05:56
But she tells me You're not sick enough to medicate yet.

00:05:59
So we're just gonna wait until you get sicker, and then we'll medicate you for the rest of

00:06:04
your life.

00:06:05
Health care, baby.

00:06:06
That's what we call health care in this country right there.

00:06:08
We're paying for right there.

00:06:09
Yeah.

00:06:10
Yeah.

00:06:10
It's it's backwards for sure.

00:06:12
Yes.

00:06:12
Out.

00:06:13
So

00:06:13
Wow.

00:06:14
On the outside, though, you probably still look pretty good.

00:06:17
I think so.

00:06:18
I mean, I have pictures.

00:06:18
I was ripped.

00:06:19
I mean, I, you know, but I was still throwing snickers in my little bags in between my events

00:06:24
because that's what I use.

00:06:25
That was what I look forward to on the bike is to to have a snicker.

00:06:27
Because you

00:06:28
didn't have the newts.

00:06:29
You know?

00:06:29
I didn't have the newts.

00:06:30
I didn't I Where

00:06:31
were you, Maddie?

00:06:31
About this.

00:06:32
Need

00:06:33
to know, man.

00:06:33
Need to know.

00:06:34
I needed you.

00:06:34
Where were you?

00:06:36
That's why we're here now.

00:06:38
Yes.

00:06:38
Exactly.

00:06:39
So, you know, I I look back at that time.

00:06:42
And, of course, in the moment, I'm frustrated.

00:06:45
I'm feeling helpless and hopeless list.

00:06:47
But I'm thankful for it now, because that's what led me to find holistic functional

00:06:52
medicine.

00:06:52
Yeah.

00:06:52
And I actually worked with the

00:06:52
doctor out in Colorado

00:06:52
back

00:06:55
before you know, whole the virtual thing was, was the cool thing to do.

00:06:59
And we took a deep dive.

00:07:01
I mean, we tore apart my diet, my lifestyle, made some major modifications, added in some

00:07:07
supplementation.

00:07:09
And then I go back to my doctor in 3 months, right?

00:07:11
She's she has to pad out because I'm supposed to get worse because we've never done it.

00:07:14
We haven't done anything.

00:07:15
And she's like, wait a minute.

00:07:16
Your labs are getting better.

00:07:17
What are you doing?

00:07:18
So I'm like, I'm doing this and that.

00:07:20
Like, I'm

00:07:21
healing, maybe.

00:07:22
Yeah.

00:07:22
She was just like, yeah.

00:07:22
Yeah.

00:07:23
Yeah.

00:07:23
Whatever.

00:07:23
Just keep doing it.

00:07:24
I'm sleeping.

00:07:25
Yeah.

00:07:25
I'm actually sleeping.

00:07:26
Yes.

00:07:26
She's like, just keep doing it.

00:07:27
It seems to be working.

00:07:28
Totally brushed me off, but I didn't care because that made such a transformative effect

00:07:33
of my health and my life.

00:07:35
I vividly remember going home to my, my husband's with my boyfriend at the time.

00:07:40
And I was like, hey, so I'm gonna quit this really lucrative job and go to school.

00:07:45
With people that are a little younger than me is fine.

00:07:47
And that's right, Matt Alfred.

00:07:50
And, you know, just really dedicate my life to this.

00:07:53
So I did the chiropractic doctorate.

00:07:56
I also did the certification for acupuncture and the 300 hour Diplomate internal medicine,

00:08:01
functional medicine, all at the same time.

00:08:02
Wow.

00:08:04
Killing it.

00:08:04
Yeah.

00:08:05
It's more than what I was doing.

00:08:06
I was just That's crushing it.

00:08:07
That's making a change right there.

00:08:09
Yeah.

00:08:09
How cool is that?

00:08:11
Can you, I this might be a little, like, swaying off topic, but how imperative was sleep

00:08:16
in that time frame, like, where you made, or what was one thing that you just made right off

00:08:22
the bat that was, like, you you felt like kind of was the tipping point in that change or the

00:08:27
in that mental shift?

00:08:28
Well, one sleep was super important, so we can definitely dive into that more.

00:08:31
Okay.

00:08:32
But if we look at nutrition, one thing that I changed that was significant for me was

00:08:37
actually consuming healthy fats.

00:08:40
That made a big difference because I was consuming all the garbage.

00:08:42
You know, labeled gluten free on the front, process packaged alter, you know, I don't I

00:08:47
don't even call that food anymore because that's not nourishing the body.

00:08:50
And so I was eating all the garbage oils and unhealthy fats and trans fats and all that

00:08:54
stuff.

00:08:55
And when I switched to actually healthy fats and nourishing my body, starting to rebuild my

00:09:00
hormones and all those different, it's amazing.

00:09:02
That was life changing for me.

00:09:03
Huge.

00:09:04
I that's one thing that's been, we've been honestly focusing.

00:09:07
So we have a, like, a third pouch we're working on right now with food scientist.

00:09:11
But was kind of that understanding when you go into a race, how important fats are for that

00:09:17
mindset the, kind of, the early onset of, like, that pre nutrition, that intro nutrition, and

00:09:22
the post nutrition of how you're doing that.

00:09:25
But I treat it every day like a race.

00:09:27
And how are we treating every day going into that?

00:09:30
How are you getting the appropriate fats?

00:09:32
Maybe early in the morning to get that mind moving when you're coming out of your circadian

00:09:35
rhythm and going into your Altradians throughout the day.

00:09:38
So that's one thing that has been really a shift for me over, really, the past 5 years is

00:09:43
I set a bedtime routine and then I go to bed at Like, it's a non negotiable for me now.

00:09:48
I just go to bed at 9:30.

00:09:50
And, like, my wife and, like, we have family in town right now, I'd be like, is met.

00:09:55
You know?

00:09:55
And they, of course, you know, I'm in bed because I yeah.

00:09:58
I'm optimizing.

00:09:59
Like, I need to make sure my circadian rhythm stays in that cycle.

00:10:03
That when I get up in the morning, my body's prepared to be well optimized so that I love

00:10:07
that.

00:10:07
That's so crucial and understanding kind of that the fat load.

00:10:11
But if we can, and I know Alethia has I have so many different questions.

00:10:15
I wanna I wanna kinda stick to the, like, a little bit to your story and kind of, you know,

00:10:19
what you were experiencing.

00:10:20
Obviously, you said it was a thyroid issue.

00:10:22
That was the diagnosis.

00:10:23
Mhmm.

00:10:24
But we know as functional medicine doctors, there's a root cause.

00:10:26
Right?

00:10:27
And so you focus a lot on gut health with what you do with your practice was and maybe break

00:10:32
down some of this a little bit nerdy for the the audience.

00:10:34
We have people who listen that are into what how does the gut affect the thyroid?

00:10:38
Right?

00:10:38
Like, what is that combination, or how why does that matter?

00:10:42
Can you elaborate on that a little bit?

00:10:43
Yes.

00:10:43
Absolutely.

00:10:44
So if we look at to my official diagnosis is Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is autoimmune

00:10:50
hypothyroid.

00:10:51
And so if we back up to the gut issues that I had for decade and a half.

00:10:57
Yes, bounced around to a lot of different specialists, you know, eventually diagnosed

00:11:02
with the gut issues of IBS because that they couldn't figure out anything else that was

00:11:06
wrong necessarily.

00:11:08
They just said, oh, maybe go gluten free and maybe take a probiotic that might work.

00:11:12
An obvious is a label that they give you that tells you what you just told them you have.

00:11:17
My bowels kinda irritable.

00:11:18
Hey.

00:11:19
You have irritable bowel syndrome.

00:11:20
I just told you that.

00:11:21
What do you what do you mean?

00:11:22
Right?

00:11:23
To me, that's like Mhmm.

00:11:24
It's like the most bogus kinda diagnosed.

00:11:25
It's the garbage diagnosis.

00:11:26
Yeah.

00:11:26
Anytime they put syndrome on the end of something, that means they know what it is.

00:11:30
Yeah.

00:11:30
No clue.

00:11:31
Yeah.

00:11:31
No clue.

00:11:31
They'll just put the first couple words like, these play into it and then syndrome.

00:11:36
Ta da.

00:11:36
So that's basically what it was.

00:11:37
They kind of ruled out super scary stuff, like IBD, which is irritable bowel disease,

00:11:42
ulcerative colitis, chromes, they ruled out some of those scarier things test me for celiac

00:11:47
disease, which is the autoimmune, gluten allergy.

00:11:49
So, you know, we ruled out those sorts of things, but I still was having a lot of issues.

00:11:56
And so knowing what I know now, that was part of the pathogenesis of, my autoimmune

00:12:02
condition.

00:12:03
And so with the in inflammation within my guts, that set up the foundation for leaky gut or

00:12:11
increase intestinal permeability, if you wanna find it in the the, medical literature.

00:12:16
That's what they call it now.

00:12:18
So what that does is that actually opens up the tight junctions of the gut lining.

00:12:23
Yeah.

00:12:24
And so whenever I would eat inflammatory foods, we'll use gluten as an example for this.

00:12:29
Make it the villain, but, it does play a role that gluten protein isn't supposed to be in my

00:12:34
systemic circulation.

00:12:36
And so it was able to pass through those larger openings and my gut lining.

00:12:40
And then my body recognized that as foreign as

00:12:40
an as an enemy.

00:12:40
And so it built up this immune army to attack those gluten proteins.

00:12:49
Now the problem is gluten protein is very similar in amino acid sequence to thyroid

00:12:55
tissue.

00:12:56
Yep.

00:12:56
And so that's what I just did.

00:12:58
Every time I consumed gluten, I built up an army and attacked my own thyroid.

00:13:03
So I did that for Who knows how long?

00:13:05
There's research out that autoimmune and other chronic diseases have a 10, 12, 15 year you

00:13:13
know, timeline that they're building in your body.

00:13:15
These don't happen overnight.

00:13:17
And so that's a big piece of my own health journey is, 1, trying my best to avoid gluten

00:13:23
as much as possible, because it's literally in everything.

00:13:26
And, even gluten free products are cross contaminated in the agriculture process, the

00:13:33
way we farm in this country, genetic modifications, And then the manufacturing

00:13:38
process, there's a lot of cross containment.

00:13:40
Yeah.

00:13:40
I can't even say the word today.

00:13:41
Cross contamination there to the point where testing was done on the top selling gluten free

00:13:49
items, and I'm using quotes again.

00:13:52
The pizza crust, pasta, and bread, and over 50% actually contain gluten.

00:13:58
And they're supposed to be gluten free.

00:13:59
They're supposed to be a 100% gluten free.

00:14:02
And they're at least 50% or over 50% have gluten in them.

00:14:05
So that's terrifying for someone who has a celiac, allergy because that could be, you

00:14:11
know, very, very detrimental to their

00:14:13
health.

00:14:13
But then it's it's not good for someone who has, you know, an autoimmune condition.

00:14:17
Especially one where gluten is triggering those reactions inside your body.

00:14:21
And so healing leaky gut, avoiding gluten, making sure my thigh it's getting the nutrients

00:14:26
that it needs as well, all super important in my my own personal healing journey.

00:14:31
Yeah.

00:14:31
And and honestly, my take on disease is a especially like these chronic disease or these

00:14:36
long, like, pathogenic disease that take time to build up is, like, think of your body like a

00:14:41
bucket And the buckets filling up with water and, you know, a little bit of gluten in there

00:14:45
starts to raise that bucket up and then some toxins from the environment, right, chlorine in

00:14:49
our tap water, lack of sleep stress, burning it at both ends.

00:14:52
Your bucket starts to fill up when the bucket overflows.

00:14:54
Right?

00:14:54
And you might feel okay

00:14:56
when

00:14:56
the bucket overflows, signs symptoms, disease state.

00:14:58
Right?

00:14:59
Yes.

00:14:59
And

00:14:59
so it's like, we talk a lot about, like, preventative health, obviously, you as well.

00:15:03
Like, how do we empty the bucket a little bit?

00:15:05
Right?

00:15:05
And that's where it's like the diet removing the gluten.

00:15:07
Right?

00:15:07
That bucket starts to lower back down.

00:15:08
You can get back.

00:15:09
Right.

00:15:09
Exactly.

00:15:10
And I have a lot of people that are like, well, I used to be able to do all these things, and

00:15:13
that goes back to the buck analogy.

00:15:14
Well, yeah, you used to be able to because your bucket was half full then.

00:15:17
Yeah.

00:15:17
And now it's overflowing.

00:15:18
So we need to do some work there.

00:15:20
I also find that most people don't have the symptoms until their body is less than 60% of

00:15:27
optimal function.

00:15:27
I know we all like to work in in the realm of optimal, optimal function.

00:15:32
And so even though we if we don't have an over symptom, that doesn't mean we're performing at

00:15:38
90% or 95% of optimal function.

00:15:40
That means we might be teetering right on that 61%.

00:15:43
So that's where prevention and doing doing the things every day to really optimize your health

00:15:48
is super, super important.

00:15:50
100%.

00:15:51
And so then what's, like, what's the in the protocol and and your practice testing, you

00:15:56
know, herbal supplements, I'm guessing, right, like healing repair the gut.

00:16:01
Can you give, like, a little overview or kind of like, your process?

00:16:03
Absolutely.

00:16:04
So I look each individual as unique because everyone is is definitely very, very unique.

00:16:10
And so I do a deep dive into, you know, specific health history, the factors that

00:16:15
brought you to where you are today.

00:16:17
I looked to see where, you know, different places in your your health journey you might

00:16:21
have gone off track.

00:16:23
Because it's not a straight, a to b line ever.

00:16:26
We're always, you know, taking little, ebbs flows.

00:16:30
We look at those because those are gonna give me some information because, again, you might

00:16:34
not have outward symptoms, of different imbalances there may be some there just from

00:16:39
your own health journey.

00:16:40
So I wanna look at those.

00:16:41
You know, obviously, taking the time to really talk with the patient and and understand their

00:16:46
experiences.

00:16:47
I have them fill out very, very detailed paperwork, to get a better understanding of

00:16:53
them.

00:16:53
And then we look at different diagnostic testing.

00:16:56
So I have, you know, the the availability to test just about everything, which is fastic,

00:17:02
but I try to really laser focus it into, you know, the main issues that I feel are affecting

00:17:08
that patient's health today.

00:17:10
And, of course, things that are gonna be, if we don't address them or identify them issues for

00:17:14
the long term.

00:17:15
Right.

00:17:15
And so then we use lifestyle nutrition, big focus, this, you know, potent nutraceuticals to

00:17:22
help to remove, you know, infections and imbalances and address deficiencies to help to

00:17:25
bring the body back into

00:17:29
months.

00:17:30
Yeah.

00:17:30
And so what's the what would be, like, the main 2 tests you say you run?

00:17:33
I mean, you do stool tests.

00:17:34
Stool test is probably the one of the biggest ones because, you know, it's a poker says all

00:17:38
disease begins in the gut, I believe that your health begins in your gut.

00:17:41
So that's a big focus that I wanna make sure that we are, optimizing right off the bat.

00:17:46
Because if we have imbalances there, literally nothing else we do is gonna matter.

00:17:50
Because if we're using, you know, nutrition, which is my long term goal with everybody, then

00:17:55
if you have imbalances, you don't have hydrochloric acid or stomach acid.

00:17:58
You don't have enough digestive enzymes.

00:18:00
You have inflammation.

00:18:00
You have dysbiosis, infections.

00:18:03
Then you're not gonna be able to properly process and absorb all the new nutrients that

00:18:07
you need to be able to rebuild your body.

00:18:09
And so that's a big step.

00:18:10
And then just blood work as well.

00:18:12
I mentioned the basic panels can give us some information, but they often don't give enough.

00:18:16
So I do a really detailed, again, customized panel on on every one of my patients.

00:18:20
Yeah.

00:18:20
We're big on put biomarkers, right?

00:18:22
Like,

00:18:23
knowing, like, your individual biomarkers versus just like your your blood work, your

00:18:27
CBCs.

00:18:27
Right?

00:18:28
That Exactly.

00:18:28
Little bit's important, but

00:18:30
It's important.

00:18:30
I don't think that people get those tested enough in reality.

00:18:34
I think a lot of people will come to me and be like, oh, I haven't gone to a doctor in 20

00:18:36
years.

00:18:37
And I'm like, okay.

00:18:37
Well, so we're starting from scratch.

00:18:39
But yeah.

00:18:40
Here we go.

00:18:40
Step 1.

00:18:41
We have a little bit of work to do.

00:18:42
I think it's important to understand, you know, your own body and where you are where and where

00:18:47
you're starting from and in correlation to how you're feeling and what symptoms you're having

00:18:52
as well so that we can we know where to, to take effect and where we need to prioritize our

00:18:58
energy.

00:18:59
That's awesome.

00:19:00
What, walk us through then, because you're probably walking us through a little bit of

00:19:03
this right now, but this is a getting method.

00:19:05
So you have actually a method that you operate.

00:19:07
Clarify it for me too.

00:19:09
I always try to look at people, not as like robots, but, like, there's very small

00:19:14
differentiations of, like, who we are.

00:19:16
Right?

00:19:16
We have our personalities, which I think are impacted obviously by, like, these major

00:19:20
lifestyle changes, but there's a lot of redundancies in humans that we see.

00:19:26
So maybe that's why you put together, like, kind of a method together because our habit

00:19:31
structures typically align, that way.

00:19:33
If you could just dive deep into a little bit of, you know, what what you have programmed

00:19:38
into that method.

00:19:39
Yes.

00:19:39
Absolutely.

00:19:40
So I find that when someone commits to something, they have a much better outcome.

00:19:45
So the Segetti method is actually my membership, program.

00:19:50
And so when that method, I cover the 12 foundations of health.

00:19:54
And so that's gonna include kind of like you alluded to, all the different areas that we

00:19:59
each need to make sure we're fully optimizing in our own health, whether or not that might be

00:20:05
an overt, you know, issue for you that drew you to my office, we're still gonna work on it.

00:20:10
And so the first one right off the bat is mindset.

00:20:13
So if we don't have our mind right, then nothing matters.

00:20:17
You know, a deep dive into your why.

00:20:19
Like, why do you wanna be healthier?

00:20:21
Why are you going on this journey?

00:20:23
Like, what does it mean for you?

00:20:24
What's your ideal outcome?

00:20:26
And then again, we dive into all the other pieces.

00:20:28
Sleep is a big one.

00:20:29
So we talk about hygiene.

00:20:30
And that's starting from the moment you wake up, and it goes all the way till the moment you

00:20:35
go to sleep.

00:20:35
All the things you can do, to optimize your sleep throughout that time frame, because I

00:20:40
don't know about you, but if my I don't get a good night's sleep, you don't even wanna talk

00:20:43
to me the next day.

00:20:44
Like, I'm a monster.

00:20:45
Oh, wow.

00:20:45
Yeah.

00:20:47
Thank Exactly.

00:20:48
Yes.

00:20:49
Sleep sleep is just that I I one thing I just have loved really about sleep is that people

00:20:56
exactly what you were tapping into there is that people don't understand that, like,

00:21:00
throughout the entire day, you're actually prepping for sleep.

00:21:04
Like, your body is prepping itself first.

00:21:06
First thing in the morning.

00:21:07
As soon as your eyes wake

00:21:08
up, your

00:21:08
eyes open.

00:21:09
Yeah.

00:21:09
So really you know, I feel like I didn't have really a mind body connection, until I started

00:21:16
prioritizing sleep and being like, okay, my my body is actually telling me something, and I

00:21:22
have to listen to it.

00:21:24
And so then, okay.

00:21:25
Well, then then I got like, super nerdy, just diving into, like, what my circadian rhythm,

00:21:30
like, okay, these Delta waves are happening.

00:21:33
Mhmm.

00:21:33
My body heat and core indexes changing and fluctuating throughout the night.

00:21:38
Like, how do I need to understand that to get the proper amount of REM to then develop like,

00:21:44
more tangible focus and I become more optimal during the day.

00:21:48
Like, I don't like, this is what I also found.

00:21:51
Like, I don't need to work nearly as hard if I become optimal in my flow states.

00:21:57
Mhmm.

00:21:57
And really understand my, Altradian rhythms of like, okay.

00:22:01
Like, I can break now.

00:22:02
Like, it's cool to break now because my body, I prepped it for that flow state and to get

00:22:07
through that.

00:22:07
But It, that's been a that's been a crucial piece in our in our optimizers program that we

00:22:14
have geared towards, obviously, men is really understanding that that sleep narrative of,

00:22:19
like, how we can become more optimal through that process.

00:22:21
So I love that you focus on that.

00:22:23
And, I

00:22:23
mean, being optimal is, like, do getting the most accomplished than being the most efficient

00:22:27
for the least amount of ex, like, expended energy.

00:22:30
Right?

00:22:30
And that's,

00:22:31
like, what we focus on is, like, how do we get better results with less?

00:22:33
And that's what we do with guys.

00:22:34
Like, we we're like, dude, you're doing way too much.

00:22:36
You

00:22:36
thought you had to do all this stuff.

00:22:38
You're you're killing yourself.

00:22:39
Right?

00:22:39
You're because it we're all day, we're in a state of capitalism.

00:22:42
Our body's like like breaking down to rebuild.

00:22:44
Mhmm.

00:22:44
But

00:22:44
if you're not sleeping, you're not rebuilding.

00:22:46
Right?

00:22:46
So then you're just breaking down even more.

00:22:48
Right?

00:22:48
And that's

00:22:49
And that's that was a badge of honor that was, you know, really pushed on me in the military

00:22:54
and America.

00:22:55
Sleep when you're

00:22:56
Is exactly.

00:22:57
How much can you do on the least amount of sleep?

00:23:00
And who can send the first email in the morning?

00:23:02
And who can send the last email at night?

00:23:03
Like, it was competition of how bad can you basically tear your body down and how

00:23:09
productive can you still be at the end of the day?

00:23:11
Like, it it's just such a bizarre mindset to look back on that.

00:23:13
So I'm I'm I think it's awesome that you really focus on the opportunity and the permission to

00:23:19
give yourself a break.

00:23:20
And to really focus on the things that are gonna rebuild and nourish your body so that you

00:23:25
can perform at the highest level.

00:23:27
Because I feel like it doesn't matter how much money you have, If you don't have your health,

00:23:32
you are basically poor.

00:23:33
Like, it just it doesn't matter.

00:23:35
We had a guy in one of our men's group.

00:23:38
Say he's at he actually does.

00:23:39
Have you ever heard of PMF therapy?

00:23:42
Mm-mm.

00:23:42
Wild stuff.

00:23:43
So it's a an electronic.

00:23:44
It's more like the tens machine.

00:23:46
Okay.

00:23:46
But it's, it basically combines, like, the tens with massaging.

00:23:50
So I had body work done yesterday.

00:23:52
It's it's pretty incredible.

00:23:53
We'll have to introduce you to Jake.

00:23:55
He's a good guy.

00:23:56
But it's, he said this, and it's, like, really stuck home.

00:24:01
The best ability is availability.

00:24:04
If I'm not if I'm if I'm not available, like, in so many people and I had to go like, I still

00:24:09
go through this and ebbs and flows, but, like, some days, I like I'm not available.

00:24:13
And if I don't get that proper sleep, I'm owning in a sleep, I feel like right now, but

00:24:17
I'm not gonna be available for my wife.

00:24:19
I'm not gonna be available for my kids.

00:24:21
Exactly.

00:24:22
Which, like, if I get to the end of my life and I wasn't available for them, what good was it,

00:24:25
right, at the end of the day.

00:24:27
So I think that's crucial.

00:24:28
Can you, you're an author now too.

00:24:31
Like, you're how do you fit it up?

00:24:33
Like, how do you fit it all in?

00:24:35
That's just serious.

00:24:37
So you are an author.

00:24:39
Can you tell us a little bit about your book?

00:24:40
I've heard of the book, and I am absolutely gonna be reading it.

00:24:44
But I would love for you to just kinda brief it, and then we're gonna deploy it to the

00:24:47
audience, but it's right in front of us.

00:24:49
Awesome.

00:24:49
Yeah.

00:24:49
So this book is actually a three part.

00:24:52
So one part I elaborate more on my own health struggles, because as I was going through my

00:24:58
journey, I realized that we all have a health journey.

00:25:02
And as I mentioned during mine, I felt hopeless and helpless at certain points.

00:25:06
And so I wanted to share what I went through to hopefully provide some hope to someone who's

00:25:11
also struggling because I know a lot of people are.

00:25:14
The second part is a lot of education around the quality of nutrition.

00:25:18
And the importance of that in our own health.

00:25:20
And so that's, as I mentioned, with even just the healthy fat piece, I do dive into healthy

00:25:24
fats.

00:25:25
But also elaborate on the best types of meat to eat, the best types of, produce and just the

00:25:30
things to avoid, the things to eat.

00:25:32
So I definitely dive deep into into those.

00:25:35
And then I really want to reinvigorate that that passion and and the understanding of the

00:25:41
fact that if we prepare and make our own food that we're consuming, that whole process dives

00:25:49
into our health.

00:25:50
The act of preparing our own food that preps our digestive process.

00:25:54
100%.

00:25:55
And that is so missed in this country.

00:25:57
Purchasing food from DoorDash or, you know, I don't wanna badmouth different companies.

00:26:02
But, if we hand over our food preparation to someone else, we're handing over control of our

00:26:07
health to someone else because They're a business.

00:26:10
So, unfortunately, most businesses aren't gonna use the highest quality ingredients.

00:26:14
So they're gonna use the cheaper oils that are to

00:26:16
our body.

00:26:17
By lowering those.

00:26:18
Exactly.

00:26:18
They're gonna add sugar because so that it's addictive so that you buy more.

00:26:21
So the and all these things are detrimental to your health.

00:26:24
So I put in about a 100 of my favorite delicious, easy to make recipes that have

00:26:28
ingredients that anybody can find.

00:26:30
I've made them in, you know, all different studio kitchens around on the Tampa Bay area

00:26:33
for different TV shows just to show that these foods are so easy to make and accessible and

00:26:38
they're delicious, and they have enormous impacts on our on our health.

00:26:42
And so this is actually my COVID baby when the world shut down.

00:26:46
I wrote a book.

00:26:47
I had the idea when we were in school, and then you know, when everything kinda shut down, it

00:26:51
just really gave me the time and space to to process it.

00:26:55
And, I'll be fully transparent.

00:26:56
The first draft I I wrote was garbage.

00:26:59
My publisher basically threw it back at me and told me to rewrite it because I wrote a, like,

00:27:04
a standard operating procedure.

00:27:05
I'm very military minded.

00:27:06
And I was like, do this.

00:27:07
Do that?

00:27:07
And they were like, no, we need story.

00:27:09
We need Stories.

00:27:10
Yeah.

00:27:11
With it as well.

00:27:12
I found that, I mean, in just being in career and meeting other docs and stuff, the best docs

00:27:18
who get people the healthiest or get people the best results are the ones who had some kind of

00:27:22
struggle in their story is where they're coming from.

00:27:24
Right?

00:27:24
They have that empathetic, like, heart for them.

00:27:27
Right?

00:27:27
Like, anyone can, like, learn something and then teach it to people and just push it on

00:27:31
others.

00:27:32
It's like when you feel like your doctor's like, I've been there.

00:27:34
Right?

00:27:34
When patients come in here with, like, excruciating nerve pain, I'm like, I had that,

00:27:37
man.

00:27:38
Like, my shoulder was freaking jacked.

00:27:39
And I had the worst pain you can imagine.

00:27:42
So I get it.

00:27:42
I get what pain feels like.

00:27:44
Yeah.

00:27:44
And so it's like, then they're like, hey, he he's he's here with me, right, versus like he's

00:27:49
gonna me what to do.

00:27:50
Exactly.

00:27:50
Yes.

00:27:50
The empathy piece, I think, is is again lacking in this country.

00:27:54
And to be able to to say that I've walked a few steps in your shoes, and I've been there, and I

00:27:59
get it, is is a huge difference, between me and a lot of the other doctors that are out there

00:28:04
And then I was a patient too.

00:28:06
I was a patient for a decade and a half.

00:28:08
So I went through all the

00:28:09
You saw what didn't work?

00:28:10
The BS that they're going through right now and that they're pulling their hair out and they're

00:28:13
so frustrated with.

00:28:14
Like, I get it.

00:28:15
That's why that's why I'm doing what I do.

00:28:16
And so okay.

00:28:17
So the recipes, is it mostly?

00:28:19
Because I'm it like, it's propped open right here, and I could see this one, power, Kava,

00:28:23
cave.

00:28:23
Cave.

00:28:23
That's fun

00:28:24
to hear.

00:28:25
Coffee drink or something.

00:28:26
That's coffee.

00:28:26
That's how I make my coffee.

00:28:28
I'm gonna have to do that.

00:28:29
Big coffee guy.

00:28:30
It's awesome.

00:28:30
I love coffee.

00:28:31
So coffee is one of the, highest pesticide content.

00:28:35
It's not

00:28:35
the same moldy.

00:28:36
Yeah.

00:28:36
Moldy.

00:28:37
So you the sourcing, like, right off the bat, first thing in the morning that most people

00:28:41
drink is coffee or some sort of caffeinated beverage, you wanna, again, make sure that's

00:28:45
the highest quality.

00:28:46
So I full full confession.

00:28:48
Sometimes I'll I'll not have breakfast for a period of time, and we can talk talk about

00:28:52
intermittent fasting and all those fun things too.

00:28:54
But Sometimes I'm just not hungry in the morning, but I wanna have my coffee, and I

00:28:58
wanna make sure that everything I'm consuming is of the highest quality So I put in, very

00:29:03
high quality grass fed whey collagen into, not whey collagen, grass fed collagen, into my

00:29:07
coffee.

00:29:07
I put, sun fiber.

00:29:11
So get 6 grams of, fiber in my coffee.

00:29:13
And then I alternate between either a grass fed butter or a, a plant based butter, but I use

00:29:20
that term very loosely because there's a lot of bad marketing around plant based.

00:29:24
This particular brand is a, organic cashew and co oil.

00:29:29
And so it's it's again, highest quality.

00:29:31
And it gives

00:29:32
It's a brand.

00:29:32
It's called I'm gonna pronounce it wrong.

00:29:36
Cool.

00:29:36
You can get it at, and you can get it at Sprouts.

00:29:38
Big butter guy, man.

00:29:39
I'll I think butter's a health food.

00:29:41
Oh, I I love butter, but sometimes I feel like I'm eating little bit too much animal products,

00:29:45
so I like to do, like, a fluctuation thing.

00:29:47
So, like, I'll do a month or 2 this month or 2 of that and kind of go back and forth between

00:29:51
it to make sure I'm still getting all the nutrients.

00:29:53
But,

00:29:54
And that's a good point to, like, being intuitive.

00:29:56
Right?

00:29:56
So, like, what you just said is basically the term is intuitive fasting.

00:29:59
You woke up.

00:29:59
You're like, I'm really hungry.

00:30:00
I don't have to force myself to eat today.

00:30:02
Or, like, days where you're like, man, I'm hungry.

00:30:03
I probably should eat or days where you're like, I probably should have some more carbs

00:30:06
today.

00:30:06
I kinda killed it yesterday.

00:30:08
Or, like, maybe I should be more protein today.

00:30:09
I worked out hard.

00:30:10
Right?

00:30:10
And so, being able to be present and so intuitive to your body that you can sense what

00:30:15
it needs.

00:30:15
Right?

00:30:16
Most people are like, why am I thirsty all the time?

00:30:18
Frickety hydrated.

00:30:19
Like like, listen.

00:30:20
Nope.

00:30:20
5% Americans.

00:30:21
Yeah.

00:30:22
And I know that the majority of your audience is, is men, but when you talk about fasting, I

00:30:28
do wanna touch on that there's a lot of research out now that women shouldn't fast the

00:30:33
same as men.

00:30:34
And so Okay.

00:30:35
Let's go.

00:30:36
Yeah.

00:30:36
I don't I don't wanna dive too too deep into it, but, just to touch on the fact that you're

00:30:40
mentioning, like, different carbs at different times, different fats at different times, So

00:30:43
primarily in the for women who are cycling in the 2nd phase of their cycle, the luteal phase,

00:30:49
they really shouldn't be doing any the fasting.

00:30:52
That's when the body is building up hormones.

00:30:54
If you do a significant fast during that period of time, you're gonna tank your hormones.

00:30:58
Yeah.

00:30:58
Or, like, or, like, busy moms.

00:30:59
They got 3 kids that take them to school.

00:31:01
They're then they're working and all this.

00:31:03
And then they're fasting.

00:31:04
Let's just add another stress to our body.

00:31:06
Right?

00:31:06
Fasting is a positive stress.

00:31:07
But Maybe in that time of life, it's not

00:31:10
the best

00:31:10
for it.

00:31:10
We need to optimize elsewhere.

00:31:11
And I actually, the majority of my female patients aren't eating enough.

00:31:16
Yeah.

00:31:17
So they need more healthy fats.

00:31:19
Yeah.

00:31:19
They need more healthy fats.

00:31:20
They need more high quality protein.

00:31:21
They don't need less.

00:31:22
And so that's why, again, I'm starting my day with high quality protein, with healthy fats.

00:31:27
I actually throw a little bit of pink Himalayan sea salt in there to make sure I have my

00:31:30
electrolytes going.

00:31:31
And, again, I'll I'll pulse in and out, different types of organic mushroom powders as

00:31:36
well, different blends and mushrooms to see for adaptogenic health too.

00:31:39
And what you're doing a lot of, right, and, like, kinda on the intro I said is, like,

00:31:42
you're you're flipping the narrative to what it should be versus, like, what we've been told.

00:31:46
And it's like, why is science always changing?

00:31:48
You know, it should be.

00:31:49
It should be evolving.

00:31:50
But you gotta listen to who's pushing it.

00:31:52
The government says, fats bad.

00:31:54
Cart, you know, salt is bad.

00:31:55
Like, all this stuff, it's like, is it?

00:31:57
Right?

00:31:57
We're starting to find that like you need sodium.

00:31:59
Right?

00:31:59
You're buy where sodium goes water flows, right, or that analogy.

00:32:02
And so it's like, to be hydrated, you do need those electrolytes.

00:32:06
Fats not bad.

00:32:06
Fat's what our brain is made out of.

00:32:08
So if you want a functioning brain, you should have some fat in your in your diet.

00:32:10
And if

00:32:10
you're exhausted, you need some fat.

00:32:12
That's right.

00:32:12
If

00:32:13
you're if you're going bodies.

00:32:14
100%.

00:32:15
So, yes, follow where are the sources and follow the money.

00:32:18
Who's paying

00:32:19
for the research?

00:32:20
What's the, yeah, what's the agenda?

00:32:21
It's so sad if people are like, oh, there's a study find it.

00:32:24
That's great.

00:32:24
Who paid for the study?

00:32:31
If you wanna hear your question answered live on the show, submit it to ask at fullfuel.com,

00:32:37
check out the optimizers program where we build max also improve longevity and get guys

00:32:42
freaking shredded so that they can crush it at life for as long as possible.

00:32:51
That's I call those the, like, the study Nazis people that are just like, so trust of science.

00:32:53
It's all about the science.

00:32:53
I'm like, dude, like, a lot of studies can be, like, skewed to fit the result they're trying

00:33:01
to get.

00:33:01
If you really look into the study, you're like, man, they pick these people from a specific

00:33:04
area Like, I know you're big on the blue zones, and I am too.

00:33:07
I agree with it, but they they cherry picked a lot of the data for, like, certain populations

00:33:11
in certain places.

00:33:12
Right?

00:33:13
And only use these people.

00:33:15
Whatever.

00:33:15
I'm not gonna go too deep on that.

00:33:16
But, again, to your point, it's like, do your own research, be your own health advocate,

00:33:20
which is what you did and what you do.

00:33:22
Yeah.

00:33:23
Absolutely.

00:33:23
And then figure out where your specific imbalances are.

00:33:26
So that's why I do the very customized diagnostic testing because you're gonna have a

00:33:30
completely different if we go for, like, that, for example, that microbiota, then then Doctor.

00:33:35
Lessey, totally different.

00:33:37
Even though you guys work together and around each other, totally different.

00:33:39
If you travel internationally, it's gonna be different.

00:33:41
If you have a pet, it's gonna be different.

00:33:42
If you have a spouse or a partner, it's gonna be totally different.

00:33:44
If you have kids, it's gonna be different.

00:33:46
My identical twin sons probably have different gut microbiology.

00:33:48
And their genetics are the identical

00:33:50
that came

00:33:50
from the same DNA.

00:33:51
Right?

00:33:51
So, like, that goes to show you.

00:33:53
There's studies on that too.

00:33:54
Mhmm.

00:33:54
2 twins.

00:33:54
1 lives this kind of lifestyle.

00:33:55
1 lives the other way.

00:33:56
They're identical twins.

00:33:58
Guts are totally different.

00:33:59
One becomes obese and inflamed.

00:34:00
The other is a healthy person.

00:34:02
It's crazy.

00:34:02
Yep.

00:34:03
That's where genetics used to be scientifically, and we're using lots of air

00:34:07
quotes today, was was a crutch that people would use.

00:34:10
There's so undenetically predisposition

00:34:12
Freaking hate that.

00:34:13
For this.

00:34:14
Yeah.

00:34:14
And then that study really, really blew that apart and said, no.

00:34:18
You have control over so many different aspects of your health.

00:34:22
That you can, you know, impact every single day.

00:34:25
So that's empowering.

00:34:26
Yeah.

00:34:27
So empowering.

00:34:27
That's powerful.

00:34:28
One thing that I think I've, like, really noticed to myself of having the, mind body

00:34:33
connection was the my actually, my nutrients, like, during the day, of the days that I

00:34:40
actually have, like, a workout.

00:34:41
So we worked out this morning.

00:34:44
But I also knew I had a podcast.

00:34:46
Right?

00:34:46
And so I wanted to stay light.

00:34:49
So I'm gonna actually my my I'm gonna load up on protein a little bit later in the day.

00:34:54
And there was this, like, myth for a long time.

00:34:56
I think it actually, you know, the show, the biggest loser, I think it was this, that

00:35:01
Julian, the trainer, whatever.

00:35:03
It was her name, Julie.

00:35:04
I don't know if that was her name, but anyways.

00:35:06
It's something like that.

00:35:07
She came out with something that you had to get protein in you 45 minutes after your workout.

00:35:11
Like, she said that.

00:35:12
That's how they that's they do that was to sell protein powder.

00:35:15
That was, like,

00:35:16
to sell.

00:35:16
Oh, you gotta get protein right after your workout.

00:35:18
Yeah.

00:35:18
Great for free.

00:35:19
Everyone working out.

00:35:20
Now it's gonna protein.

00:35:21
Yeah.

00:35:21
Fantastic marketing.

00:35:22
That's the only way to do it is.

00:35:24
Yeah.

00:35:24
That's why you're chicken breast

00:35:25
is sitting right there.

00:35:26
You're not gonna get any gains if you don't.

00:35:27
Right?

00:35:27
Yeah.

00:35:27
If you don't, you need a 45 within 5 minutes of your workout.

00:35:30
But, I mean, the reality is that's not true.

00:35:33
Your body can utilize it whenever, wherever.

00:35:37
And I for my understanding, and I think it's something that you educated me on was, it's in

00:35:42
the cadence of a really a week that you could measure what your total protein.

00:35:46
I do it daily, but what your protein intake is by the week.

00:35:50
Is that right?

00:35:50
It tends to be easier because then you're dividing by 7, like, over a week.

00:35:53
But Yeah.

00:35:54
It it's there's, like, I think back and forth research too, but they show that, like, by

00:35:59
getting, like, you can have a day that's less, right, maybe you're not as optimal on your

00:36:03
protein or your little under fed that day, but then the rest of the days are either optimal or

00:36:08
above.

00:36:08
Maybe it kinda averages out over the span of a week.

00:36:10
And so, you know, not beating yourself up if you're like, man, I didn't hit my goal today.

00:36:14
Right?

00:36:14
Kind of what we're talking about with our guys in our in our cohort with optimizers.

00:36:17
Like, guy was like, I didn't get my protein goal in today, but yesterday, I overdid it.

00:36:21
I'm like, it's cool, man.

00:36:22
You're gonna be okay.

00:36:23
Yeah.

00:36:23
You're not cool.

00:36:24
Into, like, the perfectionist mindset.

00:36:26
Yeah.

00:36:26
And that's a really good thing to say, let's do progress.

00:36:29
Let's not go for perfection because that's another stressor.

00:36:32
That's right.

00:36:32
Yeah.

00:36:33
First, and you're overwhelmed and you quit.

00:36:34
Right?

00:36:35
Exactly.

00:36:36
I I wanna talk about this because it's something that I think is important, and I

00:36:40
think that you really build on in your book as well.

00:36:42
But It is that portion between men and women that, obviously, as we age, our protein intake

00:36:49
goes down from my understanding as far as where like data says.

00:36:52
Right?

00:36:52
But it should well.

00:36:53
And it should go up, technically.

00:36:56
But at, like, for me, specifically, I wanted to make sure, you know, I was depleted in

00:37:01
glycative supply.

00:37:02
I actually had a couple of newts before the show so that I could be well optimized for you.

00:37:07
So Guys,

00:37:07
I would be fine.

00:37:09
We need to we need to hook you up.

00:37:11
We do that.

00:37:12
I have an I have an elk protein mac and cheese meal that I'm gonna be eating later in the day.

00:37:17
Mhmm.

00:37:17
But I knew that would, like, that that would just legitimately that would, like, slow me

00:37:20
down.

00:37:21
So I, like, I wanted to be, like, well optimized getting my protein intake.

00:37:24
Is that is that something, like, you you're really pushing on I know you focus on fats too,

00:37:32
but, like, that protein intake pushing kind of the protein.

00:37:35
That's what we're focusing on with our guys and and our optimize.

00:37:38
We wanna focus on fats and carbs.

00:37:40
Absolutely.

00:37:41
We wanna focus on those.

00:37:42
But proportionally, we want we have a we have a protein target for them.

00:37:46
Mhmm.

00:37:47
And then We really those days that they're obviously working out, I tend to focus a little

00:37:52
bit more on my carbohydrates because I wanna make sure, like, I'm maintaining my collective

00:37:56
size still pretty sharp.

00:37:58
And then I'll get my protein in.

00:38:00
On the days I, like, actually am not working out, which I've increased that a little bit.

00:38:06
I focus tend to focus on a little bit heavier meals, throughout the day.

00:38:10
But, can you talk a little bit just about protein specifically, and, like, how imperative

00:38:16
that is, kind of, for the long term and longevity?

00:38:19
I like to just take a step back, and I look like to just focus on foundational So that's

00:38:23
high quality protein, healthy fat, plant based fiber, and then something green or colorful.

00:38:28
So I try to keep it as simple as possible?

00:38:30
Cause I think people get super overwhelmed with my county, my macros.

00:38:34
Am I getting this?

00:38:34
Am I getting that?

00:38:35
So I try to keep it simple because I don't wanna add more stress.

00:38:37
You're talking, like, per meal.

00:38:38
You're, like, in the in the middle, hit the fork.

00:38:40
Like, Get those 4.

00:38:41
Got it.

00:38:42
Every time you eat, let's get those 4 in.

00:38:44
And then specifically to protein so if you're getting all four of those in every meal and

00:38:49
snack, Like, you're gonna cover the bases.

00:38:50
And I like the week kinda averaging it out, so you're not stressing yourself every single day.

00:38:54
Like, oh, I missed my mark.

00:38:55
I missed my mark.

00:38:57
But specifically to protein, I I think the quality is where we need to go.

00:39:01
So highest quality.

00:39:03
What is that?

00:39:03
That's grass fed red meat, including organs.

00:39:06
I am a fan of eating organs.

00:39:07
Liver baby.

00:39:08
The sculpture.

00:39:08
Liver.

00:39:09
Yes.

00:39:09
Hi.

00:39:10
It's,

00:39:10
Yes.

00:39:11
Yes.

00:39:11
Yes.

00:39:11
Nutrient bioavailable.

00:39:12
It's not valid

00:39:13
for me.

00:39:13
I I don't.

00:39:14
But Discussions with us with one of our is in school with a

00:39:18
tree tree.

00:39:19
Yeah.

00:39:19
Yeah.

00:39:19
He was

00:39:20
like he was like, it's a filtered.

00:39:21
Filters all the toxins.

00:39:22
Why would you wanna

00:39:22
eat that?

00:39:23
I'm like, I don't know, really.

00:39:25
Yeah.

00:39:25
Yeah.

00:39:26
So if you don't wanna eat it, there's there's, you know, obviously, some high quality capsule

00:39:30
forms.

00:39:31
You can get it in as well.

00:39:33
But for that so that's for red meat.

00:39:35
And then any type of poultry eggs organic.

00:39:39
There's a lot of, you know, marketing around, free range.

00:39:43
I just wanna touch on what that means really quickly.

00:39:45
So my husband and I travel a lot in the US and Internationally as well.

00:39:48
We have an air stream here, and we stay on farms and different things.

00:39:52
And I've talked with farmers, and they've showed me the facilities of their free range

00:39:56
chickens.

00:39:56
And it literally, if they have this tiny little space where they could put their little leg

00:40:00
out, That means free range.

00:40:01
If the chicken's not in a box, it's free range, essentially.

00:40:03
Well, there's cage free.

00:40:05
Okay.

00:40:05
And then there's free range.

00:40:06
So cage free means they're not in the they, you know, the individual little They can

00:40:09
actually move their body.

00:40:10
They can actually move their body, but it doesn't mean that they're, you know, we have I

00:40:13
have this image of chickens running in a field and, you know, happy chickens at the sunshine.

00:40:17
Right?

00:40:18
Pastures.

00:40:18
That would be pasture raised.

00:40:19
So organic pasture raised would be the highest.

00:40:21
Pinnacle.

00:40:22
Yep.

00:40:22
And those yolks are freaking orange.

00:40:24
Oh, they are.

00:40:24
You get an organic pasture raised because they're eating worms or grubs.

00:40:27
Like, they're eating, like, real stuff.

00:40:28
Everything what they are made.

00:40:29
They're getting

00:40:30
a lot of omegas into there.

00:40:31
And so that that yolk, man.

00:40:32
Yeah.

00:40:32
So they're gonna be they're gonna be healthier, which means you consume is gonna be healthier.

00:40:36
Are you reading it raw?

00:40:37
Hey, raw.

00:40:38
3 raw eggs every morning.

00:40:39
Okay.

00:40:39
Alright.

00:40:39
Well

00:40:40
Sometimes a night too.

00:40:40
Alright.

00:40:41
Yeah.

00:40:42
That's why your beard orange juice.

00:40:43
That's right, baby.

00:40:44
Let's go.

00:40:47
And then for any type of seafood wild caught.

00:40:49
So we could dive into hours discussion on farm raise, seafood, just if it says farm raise,

00:40:55
just donate it.

00:40:56
It is not good for your health.

00:40:57
Those creatures are unfortunately fed diets that are natural to them.

00:41:00
The agriculture industry is the highest of of, prescription medications in this country.

00:41:06
So let that kinda sink in for a second.

00:41:08
Wow.

00:41:14
As always, this episode is brought to you by nutritious, convenient, optimized, super food

00:41:19

00:41:34
and physical processing.

00:41:36
Alfie, tell everyone where they

00:41:38
can get it Yep.

00:41:39
Head on over to newdup.com to experience these benefits for yourself and live beyond limits

00:41:43
today.

00:41:47
I heard something recently about fiber too, and I had a little hack with my protein.

00:41:54
So I put lion's mane on all of it.

00:41:56
I just saw, like, basically the mushrooms.

00:41:58
I think you've seen me do it.

00:42:00
I'll just put put it over top to just get that protein into or get the fiber intake.

00:42:05
My understanding on, like, fiber, like, we are significantly deficient from just a or at a

00:42:12
global scale of fiber.

00:42:13
Yes.

00:42:14
Fibers in our diet.

00:42:15
And, like, an adequate amount of fiber on a daily basis is 20 grams.

00:42:20
A sufficient is 60.

00:42:22
They Am

00:42:23
I wrong on that?

00:42:24
Well, the the recommendation is kind of in the middle of that.

00:42:26
So 30 to 40 grams.

00:42:28
So I think you're you're hitting each side of it.

00:42:30
You know, we alluded to the blue zones earlier, so I will touch on a little bit of that because

00:42:34
I do, follow what they're doing because they I feel like they have great nuggets to share.

00:42:38
Yeah.

00:42:38
And what they've studied is the longest, living communities that are living optimal life or

00:42:44
health and not just lifespan, which is super important.

00:42:48
Critical.

00:42:48
Critical.

00:42:50
Is the fact that they're consuming 60, 70, 80 grams of plant based fiber a day, which is just

00:42:55
mind blowing.

00:42:56
That's a lot of fiber.

00:42:57
And

00:42:57
that fills you up too.

00:42:58
Right?

00:42:58
So that keeps you satiated.

00:42:59
You're not gonna snack and binge.

00:43:01
And actually, a higher fiber plant based fiber diet addresses 4 of the top 10 killers in the

00:43:08
US.

00:43:08
That's metabolic diseases, stroke, heart, disease and cancer risk.

00:43:13
All, you know, majorly decreased when you are consuming enough plant based fiber.

00:43:18
Now, cautionary, don't run out and grab a tub of metamucil because that's not gonna do the

00:43:22
job.

00:43:22
Processed.

00:43:22
Yeah.

00:43:23
Now it's highly processed.

00:43:24
We're talking about plants.

00:43:25
We're talking about legumes.

00:43:27
One of my favorites is chickpeas.

00:43:29
So a cup of chickpeas, that's, you know, 12, 15 grams of of plant based fiber right off the

00:43:33
bat.

00:43:33
And that's protein too.

00:43:34
And and plant based protein.

00:43:36
It's amazing.

00:43:36
I actually will dump some into, the blender first, but I make a smoothie because it doesn't

00:43:41
add any taste to it.

00:43:41
Nice.

00:43:42
And it gives them a little bit more, like, thickens it up a little bit and you get the

00:43:45
plant based fiber and protein right there right off the bat.

00:43:47
I'm gonna do that.

00:43:48
It's I've never heard of that before.

00:43:49
You're welcome.

00:43:50
Here we go.

00:43:51
Yeah.

00:43:51
I'm gonna learn something new today.

00:43:53
And I

00:43:53
think a lot of the the summary of a lot of what we're talking about is like optimal versus,

00:43:57
like, adequate.

00:43:58
You said the word adequate.

00:44:00
You go to your doctor, like, let's circle back to the beginning when you told your story.

00:44:04
Right?

00:44:04
Oh, you're good.

00:44:05
Yeah.

00:44:06
I feel a lousy.

00:44:07
Well, you know, if the range is a 100 is is 20 at the bottom and a 100 at the top and you're

00:44:12
at 21.

00:44:13
You're within range.

00:44:14
You're adequate, baby.

00:44:14
You're good.

00:44:16
Dude, you're one away from being freaking out range.

00:44:18
Right?

00:44:18
So, like, that's functional medicine is like, no, we wanna get that to the top of the top,

00:44:22
baby.

00:44:22
And that's hormones.

00:44:23
That's, you know, all markers.

00:44:25
Right?

00:44:25
We don't wanna see existing.

00:44:26
Totally different because the lab ranges were defined based on a sick population, because

00:44:31
that's who was in the hospital.

00:44:32
And they changed them.

00:44:33
And they changed them.

00:44:34
As we get sicker as a population, they're like, well, let's just lower the standard so that

00:44:38
people can, you know, fit in it still, or else we have to address the fact that everyone's

00:44:41
dying and sick.

00:44:42
Right?

00:44:42
And we can medicate them sooner.

00:44:45
That's what I've been, that's what I asked.

00:44:47
I've I've actually asked this quite often lately was I'm like point blank and I'm like, I

00:44:51
don't mean to be, like, just extremely forward with you, but since when do you wanna be

00:44:56
average?

00:44:56
Like, don't you wanna be, like, above average or optimal?

00:44:59
Like, said no one ever.

00:45:00
Like, hey.

00:45:01
You wanna do you wanna be average in life

00:45:03
I just wanna get by.

00:45:04
Said no one ever.

00:45:05
Like, so if you ask that question, they're like, well,

00:45:08
you actually think about it.

00:45:09
Actually didn't wanna be out.

00:45:10
You know what I mean?

00:45:11
I called out my dad the other day.

00:45:13
I'm like, I I really I poor dad, but, like, I'm like, look, back end of your life, I I love,

00:45:21
like, my parents immeasurably.

00:45:22
And that so I I say it in an act of love, but, again, I'm, like, pretty forward.

00:45:26
But I'm like, do you wanna finish or do you do you just wanna finish or do you wanna finish

00:45:30
well?

00:45:30
And so I think there's 2 separations there.

00:45:32
Like, if you're just looking to finish, like this retirement life sit down, eat a bag of

00:45:37
potato chips, and watch some Hallmark movies.

00:45:39
Like, I wouldn't call that finishing well, bro.

00:45:42
So I don't mean to call you out, dad, but I'm still calling you out.

00:45:44
Oh, I looked right at him.

00:45:45
And, dead.

00:45:48
Deadney eyes.

00:45:50
But the reality is that it's like, I no matter what age, I don't know when god's gonna call me

00:45:56
home, but I don't wanna be average.

00:45:58
Like and that's why we're diving into this field of, like, what does it mean to be

00:46:03
optimized?

00:46:04
And if it means putting a little more fiber in your diet, like, as a simple measure.

00:46:09
Like, if there's one action you can take today of, like, putting some chickpeas in a blender,

00:46:14
how hard is that?

00:46:15
Like, it's it's, you know, some really cool things that you can just take away that create

00:46:19
a different narrative for your life and how you finish it well.

00:46:22
So I don't know.

00:46:23
I mean, I I fully believe that we were meant to thrive.

00:46:26
Not just survive.

00:46:27
And I feel like a lot of people are just scraping by and surviving.

00:46:32
And there are simple things, like you mentioned, little hacks that we can do every

00:46:36
day to just move that needle a little bit and get us to that thriving so we can prosper.

00:46:41
So we can live a life we love.

00:46:43
I love that.

00:46:44
Well, what's, what's coming up for you?

00:46:46
Anything new in the works?

00:46:47
Another book or TV.

00:46:49
Anything?

00:46:50
T.

00:46:50
Yeah.

00:46:50
You've been all over TV and stuff.

00:46:52
I actually have another episode that, we just recorded last week an actual entire cooking

00:46:56
show, which I'm super excited about, which I've never done before.

00:46:59
So that was Wouldn't

00:47:00
that work.

00:47:00
That's on Fox 13.

00:47:02
Fox 13.

00:47:03
That's awesome.

00:47:03
Yes.

00:47:04
Yes.

00:47:04
Yes.

00:47:04
Yes.

00:47:04
So Do

00:47:05
you wanna talk when it's gonna be, or do you know yet?

00:47:07
Yep.

00:47:07
We should air on the 27th.

00:47:08
I don't know when this episode is gonna air, coming out of the 27th.

00:47:11
And then I am doing a digestive detective, program where as a group, we dive into our I'm

00:47:20
Mark Avaya.

00:47:21
And we do a stool test and we dive into all the imbalances within our body and things that we

00:47:26
can do to optimize that We do that.

00:47:28
We don't collectively poop as a group, but I do call it.

00:47:32
Poop poop.

00:47:32
You poop at home.

00:47:35
We just test the results as a group.

00:47:37
And then I customize, recommendations based on that.

00:47:39
So I have another session of that coming up launching beginning of March.

00:47:42
And then just some amazing educational opportunities to just share it in power and,

00:47:47
hopefully take the message international this year too.

00:47:50
Wow.

00:47:50
We're definitely gonna bring you back on so we can get, like, in in-depth on a lot of the

00:47:54
stuff we talked about today.

00:47:56
Man, if you if you're listening and you got some value out of the show, which if you

00:48:00
didn't, then I don't know.

00:48:01
Maybe you're deaf.

00:48:02
Like, I'm like, right?

00:48:02
But, like, check out doctor Anya.

00:48:05
Where can they find you online and Instagram and and kind of give us where we can look you

00:48:09
up.

00:48:09
Yeah.

00:48:10
My Instagram is Doctor Anya Seghetti.

00:48:12
So fun be able to spell that, but s z I g e t I, I'm sure we'll we'll link that in the show

00:48:16
notes.

00:48:17
It's probably the best place.

00:48:18
I have an amazing, person that's helped me out with that just to get the message out with

00:48:22
that, because I'm terrible with social media, and she's amazing.

00:48:25
That's probably the best best app.

00:48:26
You're like going into grocery stores and calling out, like, happy food

00:48:29
in grocery.

00:48:30
I love that.

00:48:31
I get a whole thing on Baker recently.

00:48:34
And and I love to hear where where people are having questions so that I can make sure that

00:48:38
I'm getting the content out that people want.

00:48:40
And actually, You're inspiring me.

00:48:43
I've I've had several people ask me to start a podcast, so I'm looking into

00:48:46
that.

00:48:46
Awesome.

00:48:47
So hopefully, and put this on myself to launch that.

00:48:49
And then month.

00:48:49
It's a great platform for just spreading this knowledge, man, and this right here.

00:48:53
Right?

00:48:53
And if you obviously listen to this, go get you can't outrun your fork.

00:48:58
The book here about how nutrition is, I mean, pivotal.

00:49:02
Yeah.

00:49:02
Great book.

00:49:02
Tons of recipes.

00:49:03
I forgot to go make some of that power cave right now, man.

00:49:07
But that's awesome.

00:49:08
So we have I got one last question and we'll wrap up.

00:49:11
I asked this every guest we have.

00:49:13
You have your 12 things that you talked about.

00:49:14
The 12 kinda optimized things.

00:49:16
We have 6 pillars, fuel, movement, sleep, mind, purpose, and spirit.

00:49:22
And so we believe that to live full fueled if you have all these pillar optimize, you are

00:49:26
full fueled.

00:49:27
What does living full fueled look like for Anya Seguinea?

00:49:30
That is amazing.

00:49:31
I mean, that that covers into the majority of of what I cover as well in the Segueti method.

00:49:37
So, for me, that is being present.

00:49:42
That is being there showing up 100% for myself, for my husband, for my miniature, docs, and

00:49:49
Milo, travels everywhere with us, including Europe twice.

00:49:54
And if I'm not showing up a 110 per percent for myself, then I can't be there to help anyone

00:49:59
else because you can't pour from an empty vessel.

00:50:02
I tried for years, and it's not possible.

00:50:04
So that's making sure that, you know, I'm starting my day with with sunlight.

00:50:09
I'm getting fresh water.

00:50:10
My nutrition's on point.

00:50:13
I'm taking time for mindfulness.

00:50:15
I do a lot of yoga.

00:50:16
I'm gonna and that just really helps to clear my mind and keep me balanced.

00:50:20
I have a personal relationship with with the lord, and so that that helps guide my purpose.

00:50:24
And I really feel like he has, you know, took me on this journey, and I'm his vessel to be

00:50:29
able to help empower others.

00:50:31
And so living through that just just really gives me goosebumps and just really just, fuels

00:50:36
me every day.

00:50:37
Smash that answer.

00:50:38
That was amazing.

00:50:39
Anya Segetti is full fuel to the brim.

00:50:42
It

00:50:44
fuel.

00:50:44
Well, thank you so much for coming on the show.

00:50:48
It has been an extreme pleasure.

00:50:50
It really is.

00:50:51
Thank you so much.

00:50:52
Cliff Fulfield.

00:50:53
Libby Allen with me.
