00:00:02
And what are the quick fixes?

00:00:04
Right?

00:00:04
The big thing, the big fad right now is GLP one medications.

00:00:08
Right?

00:00:09
GLP ones, I'm not gonna lie.

00:00:11
I like them.

00:00:11
They're good.

00:00:12

00:01:43
I'm missing somebody today, and that's my partner in crime, doctor Alfred Alessi.

00:01:49
But I'm super excited to be with you today and go over a really important topic.

00:01:53
We are going to be going over habits.

00:01:57
Habits over diet, actually, and healing from the inside out.

00:02:00
So let's dive right in.

00:02:02
So welcome back to Health Decoded.

00:02:05
And, today, again, we're talking about habits.

00:02:07
I think it's the most overlooked but the most powerful drivers in actually long term health.

00:02:13
And here's the truth.

00:02:14
Diets come and go.

00:02:16
Now weight loss medications hit the market.

00:02:19
Right?

00:02:19
Those new ones always hitting the market.

00:02:21
New fads rise and fall.

00:02:23
But the people who truly win the game of health and longevity aren't the ones who perfect for a

00:02:28
short period of time.

00:02:30
They're the ones who are consistently good over a lifetime.

00:02:35
So today, I wanna unpack why habits ultimately be diets, and reducing inflammation from the

00:02:41
inside out is the key to longevity, and why without foundational lifestyle habits, things

00:02:49
like strength training, sleep, and stress control, even the most advanced medication

00:02:55
protocols, well, they'll fail for you.

00:02:58
So we'll even look at examples like the biggest loser, that TV show.

00:03:04
We got a new documentary out on that fit for TV and why so many contestants regain their weight

00:03:10
so quickly, right after the show.

00:03:13
Plus, we'll address the hot topic button, which is GLP one medications.

00:03:17
I'll share exactly why I don't encourage their use unless someone is already committed to

00:03:24
strength training at least three to four times a week.

00:03:26
And I'll talk a little bit more about that.

00:03:28
So hang tight.

00:03:29
Let's dive in.

00:03:30
So number one, why habits matter more than what we call diets.

00:03:36
Right?

00:03:37
Let's start with a mindset shift.

00:03:39
When it comes to health, most people focus on the perfect plan.

00:03:44
Gotta do it perfectly.

00:03:45
Well, the perfect diet, the perfect workout, and the perfect supplement stack, those really

00:03:52
don't exist.

00:03:53
And here's the problem.

00:03:54
Perfect or perfection is not sustainable.

00:04:00
Life happens.

00:04:02
Stress happens.

00:04:04
Travel, kids, work, it all interrupts the best plans.

00:04:08
And that's why our clinic, we say the goal is to be consistently good rather than

00:04:13
occasionally perfect.

00:04:15
So think about it.

00:04:16
Eating a balanced meal 80% of the time beats a crash diet for thirty days and then rebounding.

00:04:24
Walking daily, lifting weights a few times a week, and sleeping eight hours will carry you

00:04:29
further than any really twenty one day detox.

00:04:35
Although I do encourage detox and we do have a sixty week detox, but that really caloric

00:04:40
restrictive, pattern, right, that is going to get you free, and we do encourage those things.

00:04:47
Implement those things.

00:04:48
Those are great, but those aren't the key the fundamentals to what I'm talking about today,

00:04:52
which is building long term habits.

00:04:55
Right?

00:04:56
Those are sprints, and you can do sprints, and you can actually say, hey, I'm gonna do a

00:05:00
sprint knowing that you're going in and it's not going to be a long term thing.

00:05:06
So it's the little habits that stack day after day that drive long term change, And science

00:05:12
backed this up.

00:05:13
So studies show that people who focus on small, repeatable behavior, not behavior

00:05:20
modifications, but behavior weight loss patterns, and metabolic health far longer than

00:05:26
any who rely on extreme diets every thirty, sixty, ninety days, right?

00:05:32
So you're putting more stress in the body in those scenarios when the small daily habits,

00:05:36
man, they can compound.

00:05:38
So I talked and I hinted a little bit on that's biggest loser.

00:05:42
So they have a really cool documentary out, and if you haven't seen it, maybe watch it.

00:05:46
But it's fit for TV.

00:05:48
The but this is an example of why these, like, really short term things where you can lose an

00:05:54
aggressive amount of weight, typically don't work for most people.

00:05:58
So they were losing hundreds of pounds over a very, very short period of time, three to six

00:06:02
months.

00:06:03
But let's look at the real world case study here.

00:06:06
Right?

00:06:07
Which example, the biggest loser.

00:06:09
So this show was where contestants lost massive amounts of weights through strict diets,

00:06:14
exercise programs.

00:06:15
I think they were even losing up to 6 calories per day.

00:06:20
That's even more like than a military scenario on very little caloric intake, with heavy,

00:06:26
heavy exercise.

00:06:27
So on the surface, it looked like a success story.

00:06:30
Right?

00:06:30
People lost an aggressive amount of weight over a short period of time.

00:06:33
But here's what happened.

00:06:34
Follow-up studies show that the majority of the contestants regain that weight within a just

00:06:38
few years, if not more.

00:06:41
So why?

00:06:42
Well, question is why.

00:06:43
Right?

00:06:43
Well, how does that happen when you lose that much weight?

00:06:46
How do you gain that much back?

00:06:47
Because the program didn't build sustainable habit structures.

00:06:51
When the camera stopped rolling, life resumed.

00:06:55
Stress came back.

00:06:56
Older routines came back.

00:06:57
And without the underlying habit scaffolding, the weight loss wasn't maintainable.

00:07:05
This is exactly why we don't focus on short term perfection.

00:07:09
We focus on the long term consistency, whether it be physical medicine or functional medicine.

00:07:14
As you guys probably know, we have our protocols last anywhere from three to six

00:07:19
months, right?

00:07:20
For physical medicine, our protocols for even the functional side last two to six months.

00:07:26
So these are long term repeatable form that now is going to change for a lifetime.

00:07:33
So that's when we make health stick.

00:07:37
So let's dig into this.

00:07:40
What is healing from the inside out?

00:07:42
Inflammation and longevity.

00:07:44
So typically fat and fat components are a form of inflammation, especially when you exceed the

00:07:51
more the metabolic structure that your body can actually physically handle.

00:07:57
So what do we do by healing things from the inside out?

00:08:00
Now, the bigger picture, we have to identify, all right, what is inflammation?

00:08:05
And then how does that determine longevity?

00:08:07
So chronic inflammation is the root of nearly every degenerative disease, heart disease,

00:08:12
diabetes, dementia, autoimmune conditions.

00:08:15
And if you're inflamed on the inside, it doesn't matter what the scale says, you're

00:08:20
aging faster, if that makes sense.

00:08:23
So that's why our philosophy is healing from the inside out.

00:08:26
What are we looking at?

00:08:27
Well, predominantly we're looking at the gut.

00:08:28
We see leaky gut every day.

00:08:30
So when you reduce inflammation, you're not just helping your joints, or your digestion.

00:08:35
And I want to get that really that joint is a key key thing because the stronger your joints

00:08:41
are, the more muscle mass you actually you can maintain in muscle mass, lean muscle mass, and

00:08:46
the act of exercise and resistance training and strength are key components to longevity.

00:08:50
So, and what fuels that?

00:08:52
Digestion.

00:08:53
So you're literally extending your health span the number of years you can live free from

00:08:58
disease.

00:08:59
So how can you reduce your inflammation?

00:09:02
It's not gonna be with a single diet or supplement, but it's with habits, habit

00:09:07
formation, daily movement and strength training.

00:09:10
A diet centered around whole foods, not perfect, but just consistent.

00:09:14
80% of the time consistent.

00:09:15
Stress management, inadequate sleep.

00:09:18
You know, that's something I had to be real about at the end of the day.

00:09:21
I had my blood work come back the other day, and I'm I'm I'm looking at my MPO.

00:09:25
And and, if you don't know what MPO, we can explain it to you later.

00:09:28
But like, the reality is it's high and it's too high, like, to where I wanted it in the past

00:09:32
couple times.

00:09:33
I'm like, what's going on?

00:09:34
And the reality is is like, I'm I'm not measuring my sleep well enough, and I'm not

00:09:39
getting quality sleep.

00:09:40
Therefore, indications of like sleep apnea are built into play.

00:09:43
So going through a sleep study and likely a CPAP machine is gonna be what's needed for me

00:09:48
because I gotta get proper air supply.

00:09:50
I gotta start, I realized over the past probably year, I haven't been dreaming, right?

00:09:54
And that's a big component of getting the proper REM sleep.

00:09:57
So stress management adequately, avoiding chronic crash diet that wrecks your metabolism,

00:10:02
right?

00:10:03
I will say this, detox is different from a diet.

00:10:08
When you detox, you we put you on a detox at our clinic, you are literally reducing the

00:10:14
inflammation of the body.

00:10:15
I call that a sprint.

00:10:17
So you're intentionally going into a sprint.

00:10:19
I wouldn't call that a diet.

00:10:20
I would just call it a short term sprint to detoxify the body so that we then can start

00:10:25
building proper habit structures.

00:10:27
But this is the true path to longevity.

00:10:30
Now a lot of people want to do quick fixes.

00:10:33
And what are the quick fixes, right?

00:10:34
The big thing, the big fad right now is GLP-one medications, right?

00:10:39
GLP-1s, I'm not gonna lie, I like them.

00:10:42
They're good.

00:10:42
They are good.

00:10:44
But let's tackle why it's a hot topic.

00:10:47
So GLP-one medications is semiglutide.

00:10:50
It's a peptide.

00:10:51
And a lot of people wanna use them because they can be that short powerful tool.

00:10:56
But here's the catch without foundational habits, these drugs often backfire.

00:11:01
Why?

00:11:02
Because GLP-1s don't just reduce appetite, they also accelerate muscle mass loss.

00:11:09
And if you're not resistance training consistently habit formation, right three to

00:11:14
four times a week, and knowing how to do that properly, and losing muscle mass.

00:11:19
That's one of the fastest ways you can accelerate the aging process.

00:11:24
So in our clinic, what do we do?

00:11:26
We don't encourage use the GLP ones unless you've already had the habit formation of over

00:11:33
a ninety day period.

00:11:34
You're lifting weights three to four times a week.

00:11:37
And what are weights?

00:11:39
What what does that mean?

00:11:40
Right?

00:11:40
You have a plan, a proactive attack.

00:11:43
It's not going in there.

00:11:44
I see so many people going in there, sitting on their phone, and not actually exercising, doing

00:11:49
resistance training.

00:11:50
It's actually going in there with an attention to plan.

00:11:53
I wreak havoc.

00:11:54
I do.

00:11:55
I go in there.

00:11:55
I push around some weight, but it doesn't have to be that.

00:11:59
Right?

00:11:59
It's intentionally going my wife, she works from home, and she gets her exercise done here.

00:12:05
She is amping up.

00:12:06
She's accelerating what strength looks like to her.

00:12:10
Right?

00:12:11
I see her I saw her months ago using five pounds.

00:12:14
Now she's using 15 pounds, on her dumbbell on her dumbbell presses and everything she's

00:12:19
using.

00:12:20
That is what I call strength and resistance training when you're adding more resistance.

00:12:24
Right?

00:12:25
And then there's a component of where you're plateauing.

00:12:27
You're back down, or it's maybe a little bit lighter day, but that's what it means.

00:12:30
You're building strength.

00:12:32
Right?

00:12:32
You're getting stronger.

00:12:34
So you wanna increase that going in with a plan.

00:12:37
Get rid of your phone also when you're when you're in the gym.

00:12:39
I'm telling you.

00:12:40
It's frustrating me.

00:12:41
So GLP ones, you gotta start lifting, right, three to four times a week and focusing on

00:12:48
protein intake.

00:12:49
You know, there's this a bunch of different things going around in terms of protein might

00:12:54
not be as necessary.

00:12:55
Is.

00:12:56
Trust me.

00:12:57
Protein is absolutely necessary for recovery.

00:13:00
You need those amino acids.

00:13:02
And then you need micronutrients as well.

00:13:04
But whole food supply focused on protein is going be your best bet in increasing muscle

00:13:09
mass and getting stronger.

00:13:10
This is going to protect muscle while improving your metabolic health.

00:13:15
Because again, medical medication without habits is just another version of the biggest

00:13:21
loser.

00:13:22
It may look good in the short term, but without consistent behaviors, the results just will not

00:13:29
last.

00:13:30
Will not last.

00:13:31
And if you want a great book to read, James Clear does this, An Atomic Habits.

00:13:37
I think it's a great book just to understand how the body works.

00:13:41
And it's part of a kind of a motivation process, the reward system in terms of like how

00:13:46
your mind operates.

00:13:47
So that's a great book to actually sit down and read and really understand, how you can build

00:13:53
better habits.

00:13:54
And you can have it stack, right, on things, getting proper hydration in.

00:13:59
Well, how do I do that?

00:14:00
Well, if I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is drink water and then brush my

00:14:03
teeth.

00:14:03
Hey.

00:14:04
I'm getting more hydration, and I'm drinking water first thing.

00:14:06
I highly recommend that.

00:14:08
So maybe even put a little salt in there.

00:14:10
Little hack.

00:14:10
Right?

00:14:11
Double stack.

00:14:12
So those are some of the things that I want you to really take away from this episode of how

00:14:18
important habits are.

00:14:20
Habits are so, so important before you get into anything.

00:14:23
So here's the big takeaway from today's episode.

00:14:26
Stop chasing perfection.

00:14:28
You're not going to get there.

00:14:30
And you eventually actually, I will say, you can chase it.

00:14:33
You can chase it, but start building those habits, right?

00:14:36
Stop.

00:14:37
What you need to stop chasing is the next quick fix.

00:14:40
Focusing on small, repeatable habits that reduce inflammation, build muscle, and support

00:14:46
your body from the inside out.

00:14:48
I wanna leave you with this.

00:14:50
Consistency beats intensity every time.

00:14:53
Absolutely every time.

00:14:54
When you commit to those habits, not only do you change your health, but you change your

00:14:58
longevity.

00:14:59
And usually, if you're consistent, right, the intensity comes because you're enjoying the

00:15:03
process a lot more, you're seeing the results from it, and you just naturally want more

00:15:08
intensity.

00:15:09
But if you want to, if you want help building this foundation, that's exactly why we created

00:15:15
Alessi Total Care Program.

00:15:17
That's it.

00:15:17
That's why I want to promote it.

00:15:19
I love it, right?

00:15:20
It's not just about the lab testing and the supplements.

00:15:23
It's about creating the habit structure that makes health automatic.

00:15:28
And right now, I'm really excited, right?

00:15:32
So September 1, we are going into our challenge season.

00:15:36
And it comes with Alessi Total Care program.

00:15:38
So if you get into this challenge, you will get Alessi Total Care, and you'll get access to our

00:15:45
app.

00:15:45
And our app is all about building those sustainable habits over the long term.

00:15:50
Incorporating resistance training and functional training and all these things,

00:15:55
right?

00:15:56
That you're like, Man, I've been on the fence.

00:15:58
There's no better time than now.

00:15:59
And this is the reason why.

00:16:00
I was talking with Doctor.

00:16:02
Alessi.

00:16:02
I'm like, look, we gotta do something before the holidays because it's like when you can

00:16:06
capture, you have the small window to capture something before the holidays, before they

00:16:10
come, and they pretty much wreak havoc, right?

00:16:14
So you wanna be proactive about that.

00:16:16
And I just think it's a great, great time to start something.

00:16:19
Start six weeks.

00:16:20
Right?

00:16:20
We got September, October to really balance that in and really start solidifying some solid

00:16:25
habits before you get into the end of the year, and you can just kick off the new year with a

00:16:29
brand new start.

00:16:30
So don't wait like other people do to the new year.

00:16:33
This is the absolute great time to do it.

00:16:37
Right?

00:16:38
And we're gonna have, just an awesome, awesome challenge.

00:16:43
So you can that's gonna be in the show notes here, our challenge.
