00:00:00
Want you to really think about why your story matters, why just getting a little bit better

00:00:05
every day, why casting a vote to who you wanna become makes you that.

00:00:11
Makes it just that one decision can make that, and then those compound over time.

00:00:16
And it's such a unique thing when you can cast that vote.

00:00:20
You're like, man, I got a little bit better today.

00:00:22
And you cast it the next day.

00:00:23
I got a little bit better today.

00:00:25
And, usually, that comes with more knowledge.

00:00:28
Welcome to Health Decoded, your number one source for real health information with your

00:00:32
host, doctor Alessi and Matt Tack.

00:00:39
Health Decoded listeners, if you're dealing with bloating that just won't go away no matter

00:00:44
what you eat, no matter what you try, I need you to hear this.

00:00:49
The bloating isn't the problem.

00:00:51
It's a signal.

00:00:52
Every external symptom you're experiencing, the discomfort, the fatigue, the frustration has a

00:00:59
root cause.

00:01:00
And in my years of clinical practice, it almost always leads back to the gut.

00:01:06
Nothing else in your body can fully heal until that foundation is restored.

00:01:11
I built this framework from my own health journey.

00:01:15
I was that patient, frustrated, dismissed, searching for answers.

00:01:20
I took everything I learned, refined it through years of clinical testing, and have since

00:01:26
helped hundreds of patients achieve complete relief from their symptoms.

00:01:30
That became the Total Gut Reset, a step by step protocol with one goal, reset your gut in six

00:01:38
months or less.

00:01:40
If you're ready to learn exactly what's causing your symptoms and eliminate them for good, I'm

00:01:45
hosting a free webinar where I walk you through the entire framework.

00:01:50
The link is in the show notes.

00:01:52
Go ahead and register, and I'll see you there.

00:01:55
Welcome to another episode of Health Decoded with your host, Matt Tack.

00:02:02
Hey.

00:02:02
I'm excited to be here with you today.

00:02:06
And just, this one's gonna be a little bit different.

00:02:08
This one's gonna be a monologue with me just sharing my story.

00:02:12
And I think, I wanna title this episode as why your story matters.

00:02:17
So for me, back a few years ago, I was dealing with intense brain fog.

00:02:22
I literally didn't know what I was doing past 3PM.

00:02:26
I would sit at my keyboard in front of my computer as an entrepreneur and really just

00:02:30
like be baffled.

00:02:31
I was like, I cannot even think anymore.

00:02:33
I gotta lay my head down.

00:02:34
I was just so tired all the time.

00:02:37
And I just didn't even know what to do half the time.

00:02:40
I was in really excellent shape too.

00:02:42
I I worked out every morning and I got to the gym.

00:02:46
I did CrossFit.

00:02:47
I did all the things that I thought made me healthy.

00:02:51
And little did I know, I was not actually doing the right things and the small things that

00:02:57
happened.

00:02:58
So I had a previous episode on habits and building habits, but I read this book by, James

00:03:04
Clear.

00:03:04
And James Clear has a really cool quote in it that said, every action is a vote for who you

00:03:11
want to become.

00:03:13
And so I I took that to heart and I really had to figure out, I'm like, well, is this what I

00:03:18
want to become?

00:03:19
Do I want to think, feel this way all the time, especially at three p.

00:03:23
M?

00:03:24
I think I'm like a well organized entrepreneur.

00:03:27
And really, I just I like I wasn't efficient.

00:03:30
I wasn't getting things done properly.

00:03:32
And so little did I know I had a friend in Doctor.

00:03:36
Alfred Alessi that I reached out to.

00:03:39
I actually ran into him at a at a coworking space of all spaces, and we connected and we

00:03:47
talked.

00:03:48
And I said, Look, man, I'm having all these problems.

00:03:51
Could you help me?

00:03:52
And so I became a functional medicine patient at now what we call affectionately call Ascend

00:03:57
Functional Health.

00:03:58
And so what did that look like?

00:04:00
Well, he took me through my blood work.

00:04:02
My blood work was the first thing that we got done.

00:04:04
And what came back really shocked me.

00:04:07
I had inflammation really all over my body.

00:04:10
I'm not going get into the true sciences.

00:04:11
I'll let Doctor.

00:04:12
Alessi handle all that.

00:04:14
But I had inflammation in my body and did not realize what was going on.

00:04:19
And it was impacting me.

00:04:20
It was impacting just the way my cognitive focus every single day.

00:04:25
And so I really had to figure out like what were the next steps.

00:04:30
And so he really guided me through that.

00:04:31
So when the blood work came back, he sat down with me and we really invested.

00:04:36
And this is the really cool thing that I did was I really wanted to understand my blood

00:04:41
work.

00:04:42
And so that's what's really cool about doctor Alessi.

00:04:44
He's always education first.

00:04:46
And so we sat down and we walked through and I had a bunch of questions for him.

00:04:50
I'm like, look, what about this?

00:04:51
What about that?

00:04:52
What about this?

00:04:52
What about that?

00:04:53
And so, hey, he's like, we're we're gonna keep it simple, stupid.

00:04:57
We're gonna go through a detox first.

00:04:59
Like, that's what you need.

00:05:00
Your body just needs to detox.

00:05:02
You need to thank your body with a detox.

00:05:04
And so I was like, hey, man.

00:05:05
I'm all on board.

00:05:06
Let's figure this thing out.

00:05:08
So I got through the detox.

00:05:10
I did about three months worth of detox.

00:05:12
I said, hey, man.

00:05:13
What's the next step?

00:05:14
What's the next step in this probably what's the what's the next step in this progress that

00:05:21
that can make me feel even better?

00:05:23
And so I slowly I I will tell you, backtrack a little bit.

00:05:27
Over the first month, did not see like, I feel like I almost felt worse to an extent.

00:05:32
And so I'm like, what?

00:05:34
What's going on here?

00:05:35
And it was just new habits I was forming.

00:05:38
Right?

00:05:38
And I had to really come back and and is this right for me?

00:05:43
Right?

00:05:44
My mind wanted to work against me.

00:05:45
Is this the am I doing the right thing?

00:05:47
And then the second month, I stayed consistent with it, and I asked more questions.

00:05:52
And then it was it wasn't until really the third month that I see real change.

00:05:56
My body felt a little bit better.

00:05:58
I felt like it was going in the right direction.

00:06:01
And so I said, what's the next step?

00:06:03
And so the next step was, well, we looked at the hormones then.

00:06:08
And what I learned throughout the process of this all was I had to make the first right

00:06:14
decision.

00:06:14
The first right decision for me was just getting my blood work done and getting educated

00:06:18
on this.

00:06:18
And so that was the first thing that I need to do to make the vote, cast the vote in terms of

00:06:24
the direction of who I wanted to become.

00:06:26
That was just getting my blood work done.

00:06:28
The next step was asking better questions.

00:06:31
So I started asking questions.

00:06:32
Well, what does this mean?

00:06:33
You know, what are what are my cardiovascular, infla inflammatory factors?

00:06:37
What is what is my thyroid?

00:06:39
What does it do?

00:06:40
What what supplements might I need?

00:06:43
Which was a little bit later on, but, like, what supplements might I need to counteract

00:06:47
this level of inflammation?

00:06:49
And so, again, that was just the next step.

00:06:52
The next step was a detox.

00:06:54
He guided me through that.

00:06:55
Hey.

00:06:55
I need to get you into a detox.

00:06:57
So, hey.

00:06:57
We're gonna take some stuff away.

00:07:00
We're gonna add some stuff back in, and we're gonna reinoculate this thing.

00:07:03
So I had a small amount of gut issues, not major gut issues.

00:07:07
The main thing was my thyroid in my case.

00:07:09
And so throughout the course of time, it was month three, it took me a full three months to

00:07:14
get through my detox.

00:07:15
Some things, you know, I will say we see people all the time at the clinic, but sometimes they

00:07:21
can be as minimal as one month to six months.

00:07:23
So for me, it was roughly around three, just getting that those inflammatory factors outside

00:07:28
of my body.

00:07:29
And then the next step was I met with our PA, which is our physician's assistant.

00:07:34
And the physician's assistant, Doctor.

00:07:36
Alessi, guided me towards doing hormone replacement therapy, which is something that we

00:07:41
offer at the clinic as well.

00:07:42
And that was because after my detox, after getting the inflammation, my body was now ready

00:07:48
to receive.

00:07:49
And I did not realize that there were steps in the process that I needed to take.

00:07:54
And I couldn't go directly towards, like, a hormone replacement therapy because my body

00:07:59
wasn't ready to receive it.

00:08:00
And so there's a lot of preparatory things that need to happen, the detox in this case, that

00:08:06
needed to happen to optimize my body in order to allow it to receive other things.

00:08:11
And I had it in my head.

00:08:13
I was like, oh, I don't you know, that that scares me.

00:08:15
That's a scary thing.

00:08:16
TRT or hormone replacement therapy is is not something I wanted to get involved with.

00:08:21
But the reality is, and this is why I stand to you today why your story matters, it absolutely

00:08:27
changed my life.

00:08:28
So after going through the detox, I got rid of all the inflammatory factors that were in my

00:08:34
body.

00:08:35
Once I removed that inflammation, I got onto TRT and started doing testosterone replacement

00:08:41
therapy.

00:08:42
And I'm not telling you within two weeks, my mindset completely changed, my energies

00:08:49
changed, Everything that I did on a daily basis changed so completely, so drastically, which

00:08:56
now two years into this road map, I really have been able to optimize everything I do.

00:09:02
Like, from my workouts, they're very rigid, but I do functional training along with resistance

00:09:08
training and just I'm not gonna go into that level of detail.

00:09:10
What I really wanna hone in is why the why my story matters.

00:09:15
Because my story matters because now I could show up for my wife.

00:09:19
I show can up for my kids much better than I could two years ago.

00:09:24
I was such in an awful place.

00:09:25
I never wanna be in that place ever again, and I I often go back to that place just for a

00:09:30
moment just to see, wow.

00:09:32
Like, I do not wanna go back there, man.

00:09:35
I was in so much pain.

00:09:36
I was in just so much so much intense brain fog.

00:09:40
I was in a state of depression too that I do not wanna go back there.

00:09:44
And today, I just live with this, like, this new confidence.

00:09:49
Right?

00:09:49
This new flower that's ready to bloom.

00:09:51
I look for things, new things every day to learn and grow.

00:09:54
And so that is truly why my story matters.

00:09:57
My story matters because of the fact that I chose to cast that vote, that initial vote,

00:10:03
that initial vote to just get my blood work done.

00:10:06
I know something's going on.

00:10:07
I know I can be a little bit better.

00:10:09
And then the next thing, yes, I I'm in it.

00:10:11
I'm fully I'm fully in this.

00:10:13
Tell me what I need to do next.

00:10:14
Okay.

00:10:14
I'll do the detox.

00:10:16
I'm fully, fully in it.

00:10:18
So I do the detox, and then I get done with the detox and, hey, I want to cast another vote.

00:10:22
I want to cast another vote to become something better.

00:10:26
And then it's TRT.

00:10:28
TRT.

00:10:29
Then I want to cast another vote.

00:10:32
And so I look at in the most granular way my blood work now because I get it done almost

00:10:38
three times a year.

00:10:39
And when I look at it now, it's all in my microsupplementation.

00:10:43
What do I need to add in?

00:10:45
And I I add in CoQ10 and I add in Omega threes and magnesium and zinc and all these other

00:10:50
things that I add in to really optimize my sleep because sleep is so imperative.

00:10:55
We've done a number of podcasts on sleep and how that is, but really, truly, what I wanna

00:11:00
hone in here.

00:11:01
Right?

00:11:01
I'm not gonna beat this with a dead horse, but I want you to really think about why your story

00:11:06
matters.

00:11:07
Why just getting a little bit better every day?

00:11:09
Why casting a vote to who you wanna become makes you that.

00:11:15
Makes it just that one decision can make that, and then those compound over time.

00:11:20
And it's such a unique thing when you can cast that vote.

00:11:24
You're like, man, I got a little bit better today.

00:11:27
And you cast it the next day.

00:11:28
I got a little bit better today.

00:11:30
And, usually, that comes with more knowledge.

00:11:32
And that's really what Ascend is all about is giving you more knowledge.

00:11:36
Your health is in your hands, and so you get to cast the vote, and then you get to receive

00:11:42
that.

00:11:42
You get to receive what comes out of that, and then you get to do.

00:11:47
So on the outside of that is to do really the implementation piece.

00:11:51
Really commit to it.

00:11:52
If you know what's going to work out best for you, then you commit to it.

00:11:57
And so for me, that's what it was.

00:12:00
It just it was it was getting my blood work done.

00:12:02
Like, I'd got to see what's going on.

00:12:04
And then the next thing was getting into the detox.

00:12:06
I really committed to the detox.

00:12:08
I did the detox.

00:12:09
And then the next thing was, what else do I need to do?

00:12:11
And then testosterone replacement therapy.

00:12:13
I'm telling you, it changed my it changed my life.

00:12:16
And I recommend it for anyone that's either close to 40, post childbearing years, and may

00:12:23
either male or female look into it.

00:12:25
It's an amazing thing.

00:12:26
But it allowed me to open up my mind to just be better for my wife, my children.

00:12:30
It allows me better to my like, show up as a friend.

00:12:34
And so that's ultimately why I personally invested in Ascend Functional Health because I

00:12:40
believe in it so much.

00:12:41
I believe in this mission.

00:12:42
I believe in the story.

00:12:43
I believe that it changed my life.

00:12:46
It absolutely changed my life.

00:12:48
And I could I am it.

00:12:51
I'm not really a poster boy.

00:12:52
I'm not out there all the time just shouting it from the rooftops, but I want to record a

00:12:56
session that this could be you.

00:12:58
Right?

00:12:59
The we we do things all the time, and we see lives changed all the time at Asun Functional

00:13:05
Health.

00:13:05
And I'm not even saying come to us, but you can do it anywhere.

00:13:10
And some people, you know, want to get their insurance covered, and that's less than

00:13:14
optimal.

00:13:14
I will say you usually insurance, they they show you a fraction of what you actually need

00:13:20
to know.

00:13:22
So we at Ascend Functional Health, we go that step above.

00:13:26
You know, I'm reading 120 different biomarkers that I actually need to know about in order to

00:13:32
optimize myself efficiently and ultimately giving you the feedback and the education of

00:13:37
what the next steps are and how you can change your life.

00:13:41
And so I would just recommend, really, I hope that I hope that quote sits with you as well.

00:13:48
Every action is a vote for who you want to become.

00:13:53
And that action, as small as it may be, it might be just, you know, that morning, it might

00:14:00
be drinking more water.

00:14:01
You know, that's one thing that I, you know, I love staying hydrated every day.

00:14:05
But it also might be I need to become a little bit more educated about my body.

00:14:09
I might need to get a little bit more blood work.

00:14:12
I might need to do the detox.

00:14:17
I might need to get on testosterone replacement therapy.

00:14:20
I might need to really understand the microsupplementation that supports my body in

00:14:25
order to lower the degrees of inflammation that might be going on.

00:14:28
Right.

00:14:29
And so I want you just to sit with that.

00:14:31
Really sit with that quote of every action is a vote for who you want to become, and your story

00:14:38
matters.

00:14:39
It definitely does.

00:14:41
And so with that being said, I always wanna leave our tagline.

00:14:46
Your health is absolutely in your hands.

00:14:48
Education comes first about your body.

00:14:51
And so make sure you make sure you do something today.

00:14:54
Today, make that action of what that actually looks like.

00:14:58
This is what I have for you.

00:14:59
So as always, with our podcast, if you're listening in, we are actually doing something

00:15:06
right now.

00:15:07
If you want to come in, if you're in the local Tampa Bay area, we are actually doing if you do

00:15:11
blood work with us, whether it be biometric, comprehensive or stool, we're also doing a DEXA

00:15:17
scan.

00:15:17

00:15:19
That's a full body analysis, measures bone density, mineral fat, does all the things to

00:15:24
get of a full scope of what you need to know from education.

00:15:28
We sit down with you.

00:15:29
