(0:00) Introduction to gut health and detoxing (2:15) Misconceptions and benefits of an annual detox (5:43) Detox 360 program at Ascend Functional Health (7:34) The importance of gut function in health maintenance (9:33) Closing remarks and call to action00:00:00
Your gut is not just a food tube that you could just throw things down.
00:00:04
It is a massive part of your view of your immune system, a regulatory of inflammation,
00:00:10
and what's going on in the body.
00:00:12
Usually, the cool thing about your gut is actually has nerve endings, up through your
00:00:17
spinal cord, through your central nervous system that is constantly feeding your brain.
00:00:21
So it's a controller of mood and mental health.
00:00:24
It is a key player in hormone balances, and it's the foundation of long term health.
00:00:31
So if you wouldn't your car for years without an oil change, why would you expect your gut to
00:00:37
function without a reset?
00:00:38
Welcome to Health Decoded, your number one source for real health information with your
00:00:43
host, doctor Alessi and Matt Tack.
00:00:49
Welcome back to Health Decoded with your host, Matt Tack.
00:00:56
And today's episode is gonna be another solo one, but this topic is something I feel
00:01:03
incredibly strong about.
00:01:05
If there's one thing most people completely overlooks when it comes to your health, it's
00:01:11
detoxing the gut.
00:01:13
We spend so much time talking about workouts, supplements, hormones, peptides, biohacking,
00:01:19
but very few people ever stop and ask, have I actually given my gut a chance to rest, reset,
00:01:26
and heal?
00:01:27
Honestly, the answer for most people is no.
00:01:32
Today, I want to talk about why an annual detox is your lifeline, and ideally two times a year,
00:01:38
but an annual one for sure, how your gut gets overwhelmed throughout the year, and why
00:01:46
extreme detoxes and water fasts only are not the answer, and how we can do this safely,
00:01:52
effectively with our actually our Detox 60 program at Ascend Functional Health.
00:01:57
So this episode isn't about punishment, it's about recovery.
00:02:01
So again, let's decode it.
00:02:04
The gut, the most abused organ in the body, and let me start with a simple truth here.
00:02:09
Your gut is one of the hardest working and most abused systems in your body.
00:02:15
Think about this.
00:02:16
The average American eats roughly about 1 to 2 pounds of food every year.
00:02:23
That's nearly a ton of food every single year.
00:02:26
Literally a ton.
00:02:27
No pun there.
00:02:29
Now add this in.
00:02:31
The average American has roughly about one bowel movement per day on average.
00:02:38
So year after year, decade after decade, every single day, you are adding unhealthy and
00:02:45
healthy foods to your body.
00:02:48
So feeding good and gut, good, good and bad gut bacteria.
00:02:53
So naturally, there's just there's microbiomes entering your body and exiting your body on a
00:02:58
daily basis.
00:02:59
So introducing chemicals, preservatives, alcohol, sugar, stress hormones, medications,
00:03:05
and toxins.
00:03:06
And guess what?
00:03:07
That all compounds.
00:03:09
Yet, most people never pause long enough to say, Maybe my gut needs a break.
00:03:17
So why don't most people ever detox?
00:03:22
Question is, you should, but the answer to that question is you should.
00:03:26
But here's the problem, most people associate detox with insane water fast only, starving
00:03:36
themselves to death, feeling miserable, or doing something that is super extreme that's
00:03:42
just absolutely not sustainable.
00:03:44
And I'll say this very clearly, you do not need to nearly kill yourself to heal your gut.
00:03:51
In fact, detoxes often stress the body more, raise your cortisol levels, and make gut
00:03:58
healing harder and definitely not easier.
00:04:02
So what the gut actually needs is reduced inflammatory input, meaning just a rest, a
00:04:08
break, targeted nutritional support, and then time to repair the gut lining, rebalancing of
00:04:16
that gut microbiome, and then just overall consistency.
00:04:20
That's really it.
00:04:21
And healing doesn't require suffering.
00:04:24
It requires a good amount of strategy and discipline.
00:04:28
So, let me talk about why an annual or biannual detox is essential.
00:04:35
So ideally, detoxing should be done at least once a year, and even better twice a year.
00:04:42
We typically recommend once at the beginning of the year and then right before the holidays is
00:04:46
actually a great time to detox.
00:04:48
Why?
00:04:49
Because detoxing allows the body to just reduce that systemic inflammation and reset the gut
00:04:56
microbiome.
00:04:58
It also improves the nutrient absorption.
00:05:01
So if you're taking supplements and you don't take that time to rest, you don't get that
00:05:05
micronutrient delivery to the rest of your body.
00:05:09
It also supports liver detox pathways, and then it calms your immune overreaction.
00:05:16
Oftentimes, get a cold, and sometimes it doesn't need to be that bad if you take time to
00:05:23
reset the gut microbiome and then restore the gut integrity and that gut lining overall.
00:05:31
So most people don't feel off.
00:05:33
They honestly just feel broken.
00:05:35
They feel off because their gut has been overworked for years and years and years
00:05:40
without a reset.
00:05:43
So let me dig in a little bit about the detox three sixty and how we use it at Ascend
00:05:49
Functional Health.
00:05:50
This is exactly why we created the detox three sixty.
00:05:52
So detox three sixty is a four week guided detox program designed to support not shock the
00:05:59
body.
00:06:00
So you don't have escalated cortisol levels, allow the gut to relax and help the body
00:06:07
eliminate just that overall built up junk over the years.
00:06:11
And it also lines your systems back up in the way they were meant to function.
00:06:19
This is not about starvation.
00:06:21
This isn't about deprivation.
00:06:23
This is just the intentional healing of your gut.
00:06:27
And when you go in with that level of healing, what does your body do?
00:06:31
There's this old thing about the placebo.
00:06:35
If you go in with the attention of a positive mindset, meaning it was pre planned, you have
00:06:39
that intentional healing.
00:06:41
So over four weeks, we focus on various things, but mainly for removing inflammatory triggers,
00:06:48
supporting digestion, digestion and implement elimination.
00:06:53
So there is elimination of food sources and then the rebuilding of gut integrity and
00:07:00
setting you up for what better energy, clearer thinking, and improved overall metabolism.
00:07:07
So most people finish the detox three sixty saying things like this, my bloating is gone.
00:07:14
Ninety percent of our patients say that.
00:07:16
My energy is stable again.
00:07:18
My cravings actually finally under control.
00:07:20
Like, I can actually resist and say, No.
00:07:23
I didn't realize how bad I felt until I felt what it, what it actually means to feel good.
00:07:30
So that's what recovery actually does.
00:07:34
When you intentionally focus on why you're doing it, number one, And then two, letting
00:07:40
your body just rest and calm.
00:07:43
And that's focusing on just getting your gut healthy and whole again.
00:07:48
So why does your gut deserve respect?
00:07:53
Your gut is not just a food tube that you can just throw things down.
00:07:57
It is a massive part of your view, your immune system, a regulatory of inflammation, and
00:08:04
what's going on in the body.
00:08:06
The cool thing about your gut is actually has nerve endings, up through your spinal cord,
00:08:11
through your central nervous system that is constantly feeding your brain.
00:08:15
So it's a controller of mood and mental health.
00:08:18
It is a key player in hormone balances, and it's the foundation of long term health.
00:08:25
So if you wouldn't your car for years without an oil change, why would you expect your gut to
00:08:31
function without a reset?
00:08:33
Right?
00:08:34
An annual or biannual detox isn't trendy.
00:08:37
It's the responsible health maintenance that you need to plug in to your daily activities.
00:08:42
And what better way to start a new year with a detox.
00:08:47
So in closing, want you to take the here's the takeaways that I want you to take away from
00:08:52
this message.
00:08:52
I know it was a short episode, but I want you to get these.
00:08:55
You don't need extreme fasting.
00:08:58
You don't need these this punishment and you don't need to suffer to heal.
00:09:03
What you need is intention.
00:09:04
It needs to be preplanned.
00:09:06
You need time.
00:09:08
