00:00:00
So the competition within.

00:00:02
Here's the question I have for you today.

00:00:05
When was the last time you actually competed with yourself?

00:00:09
Think about that for a minute.

00:00:11
Welcome to Health Decoded, your number one source for real health information with your

00:00:16
host, doctor Alessi and Matt Tack.

00:00:22
Welcome back to Health Decoded.

00:00:25
I'm your cohost, Matt Tack, and I'm flying solo this week while doctor Alessi is actually in

00:00:30
Mexico getting some stem cell therapy done.

00:00:34
He's on a mission to level up his health, and that actually ties perfectly into what we're

00:00:41
gonna be talking about today, how to compete with yourself to get 1% better every day.

00:00:49
So the topic of today is competing with yourself 1% daily health challenge.

00:00:56
I think it comes at a perfect time right before the holidays where you can dial yourself in

00:01:02
making good choices.

00:01:03
So that's all we're gonna talk about today.

00:01:06
So how do you build that momentum?

00:01:08
It's definitely not perfection.

00:01:10
Because when it comes to your health, your mindset, and your energy, small, consistent

00:01:16
wins compound faster than you think.

00:01:19
It's just like money, that daily investment, things compound.

00:01:23
Right?

00:01:24
Things compound that you actually think about.

00:01:26
And to help you get started, we put together a free download called the MAPS training method.

00:01:32
At the later of the show, in the show notes, you'll get the link to that, and you can grab

00:01:36
that.

00:01:36
It's a ninety day self guided roadmap that'll show you how to stay on track, measure,

00:01:41
optimize the important parts of your health through resistance training.

00:01:44
I'm a big believer in resistance training.

00:01:46
If you've come into our clinic, we live that out.

00:01:50
So resistance training is a very massive tool, that everyone should be incorporating into

00:01:56
their daily life, at least three to four days a week.

00:02:00
So if you're ready to lock in and make this holiday season your healthiest, let's jump

00:02:04
right in here.

00:02:05
So the competition within.

00:02:07
Here's the question I have for you today.

00:02:10
When was the last time you actually competed with yourself?

00:02:14
Think about that for a minute.

00:02:18
Most of us compete at work, maybe in sports or even on social media with your family members.

00:02:24
But we forget the most powerful competition is internal.

00:02:28
It's you versus yesterday's version of you.

00:02:33
You don't need to overhaul your life overnight.

00:02:36
That's what we think, and we wanna fast track that.

00:02:39
I do that all the time.

00:02:40
But in reality, it's just getting 1% better.

00:02:43
James Clear said this very well.

00:02:45
You don't rise to the level of your goals.

00:02:49
You fall to the level of your systems.

00:02:52
And how are you daily incorporating that?

00:02:54
And that adds up big time.

00:02:55
Right?

00:02:56
1% improvement daily for a year.

00:02:59
That's 37 times better than you are by the end of the year.

00:03:04
That's the power of compounding in health.

00:03:08
So what does this look like?

00:03:10
Hey.

00:03:11
Going to bed fifteen minutes earlier, drinking one more glass of water, taking that ten minute

00:03:19
walk after dinner, saying no to that extra drink, those are 1% improvements.

00:03:27
Each one moves the needle, not because it's huge, but because it's consistent.

00:03:33
Right?

00:03:33
You can't stop after you do it one time.

00:03:36
The goal isn't to be perfect.

00:03:38
You're not going to be perfect, but it is to be present and progressing.

00:03:45
So here we go.

00:03:47
What gets tracked gets improved.

00:03:50
You need to track things.

00:03:52
And you probably heard the saying saying what gets measured gets managed, or as I like to

00:03:58
say, what gets tracked gets improved.

00:04:01
If you're not tracking, it's just a guessing game, and your health deserves better than

00:04:08
guesses.

00:04:09
And that's why we built this MAPS method out.

00:04:12
The MAPS stands for m stands for movement, how often and intentionally you move.

00:04:18
The awareness, your mindfulness, sleep, and stress control.

00:04:23
P is performance.

00:04:25
So energy, focus, and daily output.

00:04:28
Right?

00:04:29
And S is for the systems, the nutrition, the hydration, and the recovery.

00:04:34
So if you track these four categories daily, even with a one to 10 rating, you'll start

00:04:41
seeing patterns.

00:04:44
You'll start connecting the dots between how you feel and what you're doing.

00:04:49
And that's when health stops becoming random starts becoming more predictable.

00:04:55
So here's the key line, data doesn't lie.

00:04:57
It gives you feedback and not judgment.

00:05:01
It's the beautiful thing about tracking your health.

00:05:04
Now, why do we, or specifically me, attract things in quarters?

00:05:10
Here's where it gets fun.

00:05:12
Every quarter, give yourself a health challenge.

00:05:15
Right?

00:05:15
That could be we do six weeks sometimes in the clinic.

00:05:18
We actually have a corporate wellness where we actually go into small to medium sized

00:05:22
businesses and do six week health challenges.

00:05:25
We have a little bit of break, and then we go back into it.

00:05:27
But the point is, is keeping that level of competition within yourself.

00:05:32
Every quarter, you give yourself a health challenge, not just a diet, not a punishment,

00:05:36
but a personal competition within yourself.

00:05:39
So get this, maybe quarter one, hey, I'm gonna focus on sleep optimization.

00:05:44
I'm gonna track my bedtime routines.

00:05:45
I'm gonna wake up consistently, and then I'm gonna see how I feel.

00:05:49
Ninety days.

00:05:50
Give it ninety days.

00:05:51
Right?

00:05:52
Maybe for quarter two, any given year, you do a gut reset.

00:05:56
Right?

00:05:56
We have a six week gut detox.

00:05:59
We have actually a six month one too, so you really could get yourself some competition in

00:06:03
there.

00:06:04
But, like, getting blood work done and then doing a gut reset or a gut detox, I do that

00:06:09
annually.

00:06:10
That's something that actually I do it biannually.

00:06:12
So I do it two times a year, and I think detoxes are super beneficial.

00:06:16
And look, I'm in shape, but it's still the reality.

00:06:19
I need to protect my gut.

00:06:20
So a gut reset, focus on whole foods, fiber, and hydration.

00:06:24
Those are all things that are gonna reset that gut microbiome.

00:06:28
Additionally, with supplementation, so we have our six hour protocol.

00:06:31
That's something phenomenal to build in to a quarter two challenge initiative within

00:06:36
yourself.

00:06:37
Let's say quarter three, strength phase, right?

00:06:39
You want to start building in resistance training.

00:06:41
So lift, move, build lean muscle.

00:06:43
What does that look like?

00:06:44
Right?

00:06:45
You can utilize through the maps PDF that we're gonna give you today.

00:06:48
Quarter four, mindset mastery.

00:06:50
Maybe it's journaling, meditating, or stress detox.

00:06:53
Something that takes you outside of the mundaneness of life.

00:06:57
Right?

00:06:57
The busyness of life.

00:06:58
Getting the kids to school, getting the kids to their practices.

00:07:02
Right?

00:07:03
It's all kids, kids, kids.

00:07:04
It's what is it?

00:07:05
How do you come back home and focus on your mindset of just writing things down?

00:07:11
Right?

00:07:11
The enjoyment, the gratitude of maybe it is still about your kids, but you're writing down

00:07:16
some funny things they did throughout the day.

00:07:17
Right?

00:07:18
Those are all good things of just being therapeutic about, the mundaneness or the

00:07:24
stressors of life.

00:07:25
So you pick your own, but here's the secret.

00:07:27
Only focus on one pillar per quarter, for the next year.

00:07:31
If you add in too much, it becomes overwhelming.

00:07:35
Right?

00:07:36
The point is to stay consistent with one per quarter and then have that as a measurable.

00:07:40
I love the idea of sleep.

00:07:42
Get yourself a pillow from maybe even the clinic.

00:07:44
We have some great pillows, that allow you to enhance your sleep performance.

00:07:49
So those are extremely critical things to think about of sleep optimization.

00:07:54
So everything you can build into sleep.

00:07:55
I think that's a great one to start out with.

00:07:58
So you can't improve what you're trying to fix all at once.

00:08:02
It's gotta be one win at a time.

00:08:05
Right?

00:08:05
So win one quarter, then go on to the next.

00:08:08
And when you get that baseline and that fundamental in play, that's when you can move

00:08:11
on to something else.

00:08:12
So here we go.

00:08:13
Now what season is coming up?

00:08:16
This is q four.

00:08:17
I call it the fourth quarter, baby.

00:08:20
I love the fourth quarter.

00:08:21
I love getting into that level of competition, of what things look like.

00:08:26
So now what is this?

00:08:29
What are we stepping into?

00:08:30
Well, we're stepping into quarter four, but we're stepping into a busy holiday season.

00:08:35
So let's look at the elephant in the room.

00:08:40
It is those holidays, and this is the time of year when people fall off track.

00:08:46
Right?

00:08:48
But what if this year you locked in instead?

00:08:50
You're like, no.

00:08:51
I'm gonna double down.

00:08:52
I'm gonna really, really lock in.

00:08:53
I'm gonna do what I need to do.

00:08:55
So here's your challenge.

00:08:56
Right?

00:08:56
Don't wait for January 1.

00:08:58
Start now.

00:09:00
Start today.

00:09:01
Track your maps, scores for thirty days through the holidays.

00:09:06
Watch how much better you feel than everyone else It's just coasting through those holidays.

00:09:12
I'm gonna take off.

00:09:14
I'm not gonna I'm gonna become undisciplined.

00:09:16
This isn't about guild.

00:09:18
It's about building momentum for next year.

00:09:20
When everyone else is resetting, you're already rising.

00:09:25
You're getting ahead of the game.

00:09:27
Discipline in December pays dividends in January.

00:09:30
Trust me.

00:09:33
That's what most people don't think about.

00:09:35
They wait till January and things fall off.

00:09:37
But if you pay pay the dividends in, December, they will you will get the fruit of your labors

00:09:45
in January.

00:09:46
So here's the takeaway.

00:09:47
Health is a competition worth winning, but the only opponent that matters is, guess, you.

00:09:55
Absolutely.

00:09:56
Start tracking those MAP scores.

00:09:59
Right?

00:09:59
Pick your ninety day challenge.

00:10:00
And remember, progress over perfection.

00:10:04
