00:00:00
Welcome back to the full field podcast.

00:00:02
Look.

00:00:02
We're gonna be doing shorts, but, I'm your host, Matt Tack.

00:00:05
Doctor Alfred Lessi.

00:00:07
And these are gonna be some media forms that we're, implementing where we just wanna drive

00:00:11
value, and provide quest or answers to the questions, from the audience.

00:00:16
It's gonna be a a shorter episode than our our traditional ones if you've been following the

00:00:21
show.

00:00:21
You know, that we we stick in the 30 to 40 minute range, but we wanna give, like, 10, 15

00:00:24
minutes.

00:00:25
This is hyper focused on answering questions.

00:00:26
From our audience that people have sent us, asked us.

00:00:30
And so if you have questions, you've been watching a show or even just questions in in

00:00:34
health optimization in general, we want you to send those to ask ask@fullfuel.com.

00:00:40
We'll get to them.

00:00:41
We'll answer them live on the show in these little mini episodes.

00:00:44
So, Let's just dig right in, bro.

00:00:46
Let's

00:00:46
go.

00:00:46
We got three questions here that we're gonna take.

00:00:48
That way we keep it short and sweet.

00:00:50
We'll each pipe pitch in a little bit, but The first one, that we got is what's the best

00:00:55
strategy for building muscle size?

00:00:58
Now when we're talking muscle size, in terms per trophy.

00:01:00
Right?

00:01:01
That's the growth of muscle cells that exist.

00:01:03
How do we grow them in actual size?

00:01:06
Man, we did a whole episode on Right?

00:01:08
Yeah.

00:01:08
I

00:01:08
mean, we talked about, like, the foundation of of strength and and working out.

00:01:12
And so you gotta go back to that episode.

00:01:14
Check it out about the the 5 ways, the 5 pillars of strength.

00:01:18
But before you build size, I mean, you have to have a foundation.

00:01:21
Absolutely.

00:01:22
Yeah.

00:01:23
I mean, you can't just start going in there trying to peek your muscle and try to pump it

00:01:26
up.

00:01:27
Without having proper form, without having stable joints that are gonna support that.

00:01:31
Right?

00:01:32
So, I mean, my take would be to build adequate size is get your foundation straight and then

00:01:38
make sure you're ultimately gonna use the appropriate, rep ranges for hypertrophy.

00:01:43
That's somewhere in the realm of 8 to 15, right, but making sure that we're we're hitting

00:01:48
positive muscle failure at about that 8 to 15 range.

00:01:51
I think that's a key thing to focus on is that, positive muscle failure.

00:01:56
You know, a lot of guys go in there and just try to throw up weight, put as much weight up

00:02:00
as possible.

00:02:01
Or their minds, like the guys in our optimizers program right now, they're like, I just wanna

00:02:06
go fast.

00:02:07
You know, I want I want the I wanna see faster results, but you know, we always emphasize the

00:02:11
long game and the approach.

00:02:12
Right?

00:02:13
And sometimes it's just getting to that positive muscle failure with where it's between

00:02:17
6 to 8 reps, right, where maybe on your 3rd set, you're really feeling it.

00:02:22
I mean, said, hey, I was at 7, doing flies.

00:02:26
With £40, £40 weights.

00:02:29
And I I definitely was fatigued.

00:02:31
So it's really having that mind body connection, of where you're fatiguing.

00:02:37
Not to the point of injury.

00:02:38
Right?

00:02:38
So we wanna make sure that we're maintaining that balance, maintaining that structure in

00:02:43
terms of using the appropriate weight for the time.

00:02:46
And then scaling that up over time because that's ultimately what's gonna increase muscle

00:02:49
mass.

00:02:49
But, obviously, you know, it's something that we talk about always is then, nutrition.

00:02:54
You know, when you're getting the proper protein in you That's a great idea.

00:02:57
For recovery, and then extending your, extending your mindset.

00:03:02
While you're training, to the appropriate muscle failure, positive muscle failure, you're

00:03:08
gonna see some gains.

00:03:09
That's huge.

00:03:09
I mean, you wanna grow your muscle in size.

00:03:11
You have to feed it.

00:03:12
Yeah.

00:03:12
Like, anything that wants to grow needs needs a

00:03:14
Needs to be.

00:03:15
Fuel.

00:03:16
Right?

00:03:16
So, back to the the just real quick before we get into the next question, the topic of or the

00:03:21
concept of positive muscle failure, it means that when you're working for a rep range,

00:03:25
right, which we talk about in that that episode that I referenced, go check that out.

00:03:30
That rep range is meant to determine your failure level or your your failure point.

00:03:33
Right?

00:03:34
Cause if you use a weight that you can get 12 reps with and you do four reps, you're not

00:03:38
reaching positive muscle failure.

00:03:39
You're you're not getting enough stimulus.

00:03:41
Right?

00:03:41
So you gotta obviously amp the weight up or slow down or whatever it might be.

00:03:45
So, Yeah.

00:03:47
Good question.

00:03:47
Love to hear more of those.

00:03:48
Alright.

00:03:48
Let's go to the next one.

00:03:50
How can I get past my stressful life and work situation in order to optimize my health and my

00:03:56
sleep?

00:03:57
Man, that's a great, question.

00:04:00
So like, I've been there.

00:04:02
I I can see that, you know, and I I made a post the other day about, this specifically.

00:04:08
Right?

00:04:09
Time is always of the essence.

00:04:12
But, you know, if you're not gonna schedule your priorities, your priorities, definitely

00:04:16
gonna schedule you.

00:04:18
And so you wanna make sure that your priorities could become the number one us of what, optimal

00:04:23
health looks like.

00:04:24
You look, the reality is that, you know, statistically saying is that we're gonna live

00:04:28
well into our eighties, you know, unless god cuddles his home earlier, the majority of

00:04:33
people live into their eighties.

00:04:34
Now what is the longevity of what your eighties look like?

00:04:38
And I think many people don't focus on that long game and how sleep is so imperative.

00:04:44
But then also executing on what your priorities or your deliverables are throughout the week.

00:04:49
So, when you prioritize and put things in your calendar, typically those become non

00:04:55
negotiable.

00:04:56
Right?

00:04:56
And exercise is very rarely, considered a put in somebody's calendar.

00:05:02
It's usually like the first thing to go.

00:05:03
You get busy and you're like,

00:05:04
yeah, we

00:05:05
we can push that.

00:05:06
I'm a bail.

00:05:06
Yeah.

00:05:07
But if that becomes a non negotiable as well as sleep, now what is the longevity of what you're

00:05:12
80s looks like at that point.

00:05:14
So I always start with the end in mind of how I can decrease my stress loads, and that

00:05:19
absolutely is pre because I prioritize exercise and sleep.

00:05:24
Yeah.

00:05:24
Love that.

00:05:25
I'd I'd expound a little bit and say, like, what is the stressor, right, whoever's asking

00:05:28
this question.

00:05:29
What's the stressor that is causing you so much turmoil that you can't optimize your health.

00:05:34
Maybe you need to take that out of your life.

00:05:36
Right?

00:05:36
And I know that's that'll trigger people because it's like, dude, if it's work, You

00:05:40
gotta freaking quit your job and do something else?

00:05:42
Like, where's your purpose?

00:05:43
Where's your why?

00:05:44
We talk about that all the time.

00:05:45
And we

00:05:45
just had that recent podcast with doctor Anya just talking about how she left her job,

00:05:50
because it was just one of those things where she had very inadequate health.

00:05:54
Yeah.

00:05:55
Her

00:05:55
job was killing her.

00:05:56
Killing her.

00:05:56
Literally killing her.

00:05:58
So it then becomes, you know, how do you optimize?

00:06:00
You know, if if it is a situation, hey.

00:06:02
I need to support my family.

00:06:03
I understand that.

00:06:05
But I I go back to the term that a buddy Jake told us is the the best ability is

00:06:10
availability.

00:06:11
And if you aren't gonna be available for your family, if you aren't gonna be available for

00:06:15
your job, then, you know, people I think there was a statistic that once said, like, you'd you

00:06:21
actually people that say they work 60 to 70 hours a week actually only get, like, 30 hours

00:06:27
of real work in, just within the social influence that we have inefficiencies.

00:06:32
And so how can we become more efficient?

00:06:35
One one of the ways that I have become more efficient is, and I know you have as well as we

00:06:40
don't watch TV.

00:06:41
So we blocked out essentially TV.

00:06:43
It's not within our day to day.

00:06:45
I do watch a few, you know, I'll watch, some college football go blue.

00:06:49
I just love Sure.

00:06:51
In there.

00:06:51
Yeah.

00:06:51
But, but at the end of the day, like, you have to the net enjoyment, I think we talked about

00:06:55
in the podcast with Doctor X

00:06:57
Yeah.

00:06:57
Of, like, the net enjoyment of life.

00:06:59
You have to enjoy life but at the end of the day, when does that become a deterrent of what

00:07:04
you can do?

00:07:05
And so, honestly, when I'm a when I'm watching maybe a football game or I'm watching a

00:07:09
basketball game, which is very, like, rare, and minimal, because I wanna spend time really

00:07:15
present time with my family.

00:07:17
I'm doing trigger sessions.

00:07:19
And I know we have some medium form content that we're pushing out on these trigger

00:07:23
sessions, but, like, how am I optimizing that wind even when I'm doing something that maybe

00:07:28
might not be considered productive.

00:07:30
Yeah.

00:07:30
I'd say to wrap that up.

00:07:31
Go listen to the episode with doctor Anya Seghetti where we talked about emptying your

00:07:36
bucket.

00:07:36
Stress, it fills your your body's like a bucket.

00:07:39
And when stress is added onto that, it's like you're filling that bucket up until it's gonna

00:07:43
overflow and you're gonna get sick.

00:07:44
You're gonna get, you know, develop a disease or whatever.

00:07:46
And and that's not what you wanna do.

00:07:49
That's not how you live optimally or or for longevity.

00:07:51
So figure out how you're gonna empty your bucket, incorporate workouts, nutrition,

00:07:55
everything that we do in the optimizer program is meant for that.

00:07:58
Right?

00:07:58
So how do we work?

00:07:59
How do we do the most work, at least amount of effort, get the maximum result efficiency.

00:08:04
Right?

00:08:04
Yeah.

00:08:05
Love that.

00:08:05
Join the optimizers program.

00:08:06
That's right.

00:08:07
Yeah.

00:08:07
So number 3, I'm trying to build muscle and burn fat but I feel like I can't do both at the

00:08:12
same time.

00:08:13
I'm either bulking or cutting.

00:08:17
That's I I feel like the lean bulk.

00:08:20
You heard of that.

00:08:20
Right?

00:08:21
Like, we're clean clean bulking.

00:08:22
Yeah.

00:08:23
It's not really a thing, but, I mean, you can build muscle and burn fat at the same time.

00:08:27
Mussel is a antibody, tissues, thermogenic, right, to to eat protein.

00:08:33
That's what we preach is is getting adequate protein, building muscle, makes your body just

00:08:38
a burning machine.

00:08:39
Right?

00:08:39
Look at guys like Micah Lacert.

00:08:41
Right?

00:08:41
He's just jacked forever because he put on so much muscle at a young age that now it's just

00:08:46
like, He even told me he's like, I don't have to work that hard really to maintain this.

00:08:50
It's just it's here.

00:08:51
Obviously, he pushes it, but he's not it's not as much as as trying to build that.

00:08:56
Right?

00:08:56
So, I mean, I think focus on anabolic muscle building, focus on lean protein, and you will

00:09:02
burn fat.

00:09:02
Your body will re recomposition.

00:09:05
Yeah.

00:09:05
So, my just add on to that would be, is that even us focusing on the optimizers program is

00:09:13
really focused on the anabolic range.

00:09:16
But that being the foundation because that is actually going to push your, your VO2.

00:09:22
That's gonna, push your, cardiovascular.

00:09:25
When you're building muscle, but you're also losing fat at the same time.

00:09:29
So it's really we focus on body composition because that's ultimately where your where your

00:09:33
confidence is gonna come from.

00:09:34
So What I'd say to that is men, anabolic, anabolic, anabolic.

00:09:38
That's right.

00:09:39
Always be building.

00:09:40
Right?

00:09:40
And then that way, your your body's gonna have to use energy to build.

00:09:44
Awesome, man.

00:09:44
That was that was short and sweet.

00:09:46
We're gonna do more of these.

00:09:47
