00:00:00
Think of it like your call it call it your health financial statement.
00:00:06
You wanna you wanna think of it like you you boldly say that.
00:00:10
Your muscle, this equals your assets.
00:00:13
Your muscle equals your assets.
00:00:14
You gotta think it like your bank account.
00:00:16
You gotta make deposits.
00:00:17
You're visceral fat, that your debt, you're taken away.
00:00:21
Welcome to Health Decoded, your number one source for real health information with your
00:00:26
host, doctor Alessi and Matt Tack.
00:00:30
Welcome back to another episode of Health Decoded.
00:00:34
I'm your host doctor Alessi.
00:00:37
Your co host, Matt Tack.
00:00:39
Matt Tack, great to see you, Matt.
00:00:41
I'm excited for this episode today.
00:00:43
We're going to get back into something and a really cool topic that is basically enhancing
00:00:51
the way that we are doing everything within the clinic here at Ascend functional health and I
00:00:56
said Ascend functional health for the first time on the podcast, we are rebranding from
00:01:00
Alessi to Ascend functional health.
00:01:03
So keep on the lookout for that everybody listening but today we're going to talk about a
00:01:07
test that honestly I believe should be as common as your basic cholesterol blood test
00:01:13
that you get at your yearly physical.
00:01:15
Yet very few people have ever really run one of these.
00:01:18
It's called a DEXA scan.
00:01:20
And so you know, the reason this is important because if you care about living longer,
00:01:24
preventing chronic disease, staying strong and mobile, and understanding your body
00:01:30
composition, or reducing your injury risk, then this is for you and this episode may change how
00:01:36
you think about your health forever.
00:01:38
The DEXA scan gives you objective data, not guesses, not internet calculations, not a
00:01:44
bathroom scale.
00:01:45
It shows you exactly what your body is made of, and where you stand today.
00:01:50
So we can build a plan for where you want to go.
00:01:53
And so I'm really excited that this is something we're bringing into the clinic as we
00:01:57
move into a larger facility here at Ascend.
00:01:59
And really was on a credit to you, man.
00:02:01
It was something you kind of, opened the doors on and maybe I wasn't even thinking that way.
00:02:06
So props to you on that, man.
00:02:08
No.
00:02:09
I think it just is critical for longevity.
00:02:11
People that people that really just wanna figure things out or they wanna be a little
00:02:17
ahead of the game or even maybe they're behind the game and they just wanna get a little bit
00:02:20
better.
00:02:21
You're only as good as the data your body gives you.
00:02:24
And so we're all about plugging in that data and the measurables of what we can do and what
00:02:29
is cutting edge.
00:02:30
We never wanted to be that clinic that was two steps behind.
00:02:34
We always want to be two steps ahead in terms of what we can provide to our patients.
00:02:38
And so like, as I was researching this, I just found it like extreme value that we can bring
00:02:43
to our patient database of like, they can know more about their bodies.
00:02:49
And we and then just being knowledgeable overall.
00:02:52
And so we are just bringing so many things in to the clinic that are just so good for our
00:03:00
patients.
00:03:00
And that's why honestly, what I'm most excited about is just like the knowledge that number
00:03:04
one, we get to give back on this podcast and speak a little bit more about the new things
00:03:09
that we're adding into the clinic and how that is going to implement and change lives within
00:03:14
families because they have more information and more knowledge about their bodies and are able
00:03:19
to make better decisions.
00:03:21
Yeah, definitely, man.
00:03:23
And you know, it's again, it's all about creating giving more value is funny.
00:03:27
I was talking to a patient today as we're doing finishing up an appointment.
00:03:31
And I was like, you know, we're getting a bigger facility because we just like having
00:03:35
cool, high technology functional health things.
00:03:39
And we ran out of room here.
00:03:40
Was like I was like there's not another room to add stuff so like we needed we needed more
00:03:45
space so you know it's exciting man because this is going to really change the way that
00:03:49
we're able to help people so you know.
00:03:51
Let's just get right into the topic let's start with you know what is a DEXA scan a lot of
00:03:56
people probably have heard of it but aren't sure what it exactly is or haven't heard of it
00:04:00
at all so you know DEXA D E X A stands for dual energy X-ray absorb geometry Big word.
00:04:08
Basically sounds complicated but what it means in plain English is it uses two very low dose
00:04:14
X-ray beams.
00:04:16
They pass through the body at different energy levels.
00:04:18
Your tissues absorb those beams differently.
00:04:21
So fat tissue versus muscle versus bone absorb those energy or those x-ray energies
00:04:27
differently.
00:04:28
The scanner then measures that absorption.
00:04:31
And from that, we can precisely, the most precise way on earth, calculate body tissue
00:04:37
composition.
00:04:39
So in other words, it is the most accurate way to gather compositional data about your body.
00:04:45
How much muscle mass you have, your body fat percentage, bone density is very important as
00:04:50
we age.
00:04:50
And so again, it's not the bio impedance scale that you know, even we use sometimes to get
00:04:56
some basic data, but it's not that it's much more detailed.
00:04:59
It's not the handheld gym thing you've done before.
00:05:02
And it's not just your height and weight BMI, which is honestly negligible at this point.
00:05:07
So the DEXA is the gold standard in body composition analysis, bone density assessment,
00:05:14
and then fat and lean mass mapping.
00:05:17
And so the radiation exposure if people are concerned, right, people are always asking
00:05:21
about X-ray, it's extremely minimal.
00:05:24
Typically less than like a flight going across the country.
00:05:27
And realistically, we're all carrying one of these around with us daily that's radiating us
00:05:31
more than than we imagine.
00:05:33
The scan is painless, non invasive, you simply lie down for about ten minutes while the arm
00:05:38
scans across your body.
00:05:40
Excuse me.
00:05:41
And so what does it actually test for?
00:05:44
Okay, so a lot of people think body fat, that's what they've heard is they go Dexter's going to
00:05:48
tell me my body fat.
00:05:49
It does give you that, which is fantastic, but it gives you a lot more than that.
00:05:53
So it's going to give you total body fat percentage, not just BMI.
00:05:58
So it's not weight divided by height, it's not just a calculation.
00:06:02
It's an actual number based on that again, that absorbed geometry of the x rays.
00:06:07
And so it's actual measured body fat.
00:06:09
And this really matters, Matt, because BMI can can lie to you.
00:06:14
If you took yours and my BMI, we are more on the overweight side of things.
00:06:19
That's because we run heavier with with lean body tissue that weighs more it's more dense
00:06:25
than body fat.
00:06:26
And so, you know, a muscular athlete and a sedentary person can have the same BMI, but
00:06:32
completely different composition of their body.
00:06:35
And so the Dex is gonna remove that guesswork and give you accurate picture.
00:06:40
And so the other thing that's vital is that it's gonna tell you visceral fat.
00:06:45
And this is the one that's important for longevity.
00:06:47
Visceral fat is the deeper fat that actually surrounds your organs, surrounds your liver,
00:06:52
your pancreas and your intestines.
00:06:55
This is the metabolically dangerous fat which is associated with diabetes, cardiovascular
00:07:00
disease, dementia, fatty liver disease, and systemic inflammation.
00:07:05
It's a driver of systemic inflammation.
00:07:08
So oftentimes people can look thin on the outside, but still carry a high level of
00:07:14
visceral fat.
00:07:16
The DEXA scan will show that, it will clearly show and there's no hiding.
00:07:20
It also shows us our lean muscle mass which we know muscle is basically the number one
00:07:26
predictor of longevity and health span.
00:07:29
Somebody with more muscle mass on their body will live longer, will have less likely for
00:07:33
injury, a metabolic disease, those kind of things.
00:07:36
So it's going give you your total muscle mass and it's going to give you regional muscle mass
00:07:40
by limbs.
00:07:41
So do people carry more in their legs, their midsection, their arms?
00:07:45
And it'll show you symmetry.
00:07:46
So if someone has created an imbalance over time, which goes hand in hand with a lot of the
00:07:51
physical medicine things we do, we're trying to rebalance and create postural changes.
00:07:56
If someone's got their their hips shifted to one side and they're using their right side
00:08:00
more, they're going to probably have more muscle mass.
00:08:02
And so it really helps us identify weaknesses before they become injuries.
00:08:07
Helps us get ahead of sarcopenia, which is age related muscle loss.
00:08:12
And it tells us whether the training you're doing is actually working.
00:08:15
You know, this is something you and I talk about is a lot of people go to the gym, and
00:08:18
they just do a bunch of stuff.
00:08:19
But they're not pushing themselves quite enough to stimulate growth muscle, you know, muscle
00:08:24
growth or synthesis.
00:08:26
A DEXA scan will tell you if what you're doing is working.
00:08:29
There's no cheat in this this test, man.
00:08:32
And so, again, muscle is one of the strongest predictors for healthy aging, it's going to
00:08:36
lower the risk of falls and injuries.
00:08:38
It improves insulin sensitivity.
00:08:41
It's gonna create stronger bones and better mobility.
00:08:44
So that's just independence.
00:08:46
As you get older, muscle is number one.
00:08:48
And then the last thing it's gonna test for is bone density.
00:08:51
And so this is where DEXA is unique because we can detect osteopenia, osteoporosis, risk for
00:08:58
fractures before someone ever even experiences like a major injury.
00:09:02
And so bone density decreases with aging, we know that.
00:09:06
Now, it also decreases with hormonal changes, inactivity, so sedentary, nutrient
00:09:12
deficiencies, which we catch all the time, when somebody has a gut dysfunction that's not
00:09:16
allowing them to absorb minerals and nutrients, they're gonna have lower bone density for sure.
00:09:21
And so it'll help us to create a more whole picture of the health of someone's body and get
00:09:27
ahead of that kind of thing.
00:09:28
Because you're not going to feel declining bone density over time, but we can discover it by
00:09:33
DEXA before we have to discover it by fracture.
00:09:35
And so, you know, I'll let you kinda get into a little bit of of like why this matters, man.
00:09:40
I know it's this hits home for you.
00:09:43
For sure.
00:09:43
I mean, that's why we're thinking about, you know, DEXA, and we're talking about it in
00:09:46
today's podcast.
00:09:47
It is a longevity mechanism, and again, it gives you that data back.
00:09:51
So let's zoom out beyond the numbers here.
00:09:54
Why does it matter for longevity is the real question, because what mattered, what measured
00:09:58
gets managed.
00:09:59
I don't know how many times I've heard you say that in the clinic.
00:10:03
We constantly say that you have to measure things in order to manage them correctly.
00:10:08
So longevity, what it's not about.
00:10:10
Random supplements, just throwing stuff out there expecting it to stick.
00:10:14
Trendy bio hacks.
00:10:16
I've been there before.
00:10:17
I've done a lot of the trendy bio hacks.
00:10:19
I was like, yeah, this isn't working.
00:10:20
Right?
00:10:21
There's a lot of that.
00:10:22
But what is working?
00:10:23
And that's the data your body's giving you through a DEXA scan.
00:10:27
So the other thing is posting early morning cold plunge videos is like one of those ones
00:10:33
that I tried like every single day, and I'm like, this isn't working for me.
00:10:36
So I do a lot of different things now, and I won't say like those cold plunges don't work,
00:10:41
but you know, I think we've done a long study on what does work and what doesn't work.
00:10:47
And we preach what we've already tried out and what does work.
00:10:50
So Doctor.
00:10:51
Alessi and I both are constantly researching and looking for the tools that are going to
00:10:58
best set up our patients for the future and the future of their longevity and how they surround
00:11:02
themselves with their family and what those things look like.
00:11:05
So, what longevity is about is just maintaining muscle mass.
00:11:09
You know, we talk about this every day.
00:11:12
We usually I plan the end of the year for what I'm actually going into the year with my next
00:11:17
training schedule.
00:11:18
I actually map that out, and so I'd map out three months worth of activities of how I'm
00:11:23
going to train.
00:11:24
That's me going in with intention and then tracking those where I'm maintaining that
00:11:29
muscle mass for longevity.
00:11:30
Preserving bone density is a major tool that we are actually utilizing a lot through peptides
00:11:37
now.
00:11:37
So if you haven't listened to the prior podcast already, but we focus heavily on nutrition
00:11:44
first and then supplementation second.
00:11:47
And so Doctor.
00:11:48
Alessi's specialty is in gut health, and a lot of that comes down to what your body physically
00:11:54
can absorb.
00:11:55
And so we help patients out every day focusing on, Hey, how can we get you a proper gut so
00:12:01
that your body can properly absorb the micronutrients that you need, micro and macro,
00:12:07
that you need to have these, like to maintain your muscle mass and your bone density.
00:12:12
But then the other thing is like activity.
00:12:14
Activity is a major tool in minimizing visceral fat.
00:12:18
So we want to make sure that we are implementing these things.
00:12:21
We practice what we preach and that's why we push these things.
00:12:24
So minimizing visceral fat is a major component and is something that the DEXA scans.
00:12:29
The other thing that we always do, and it goes back to utilizing Doctor.
00:12:35
Alessi and the team for optimal gut health, is because we want to keep the inflammation low.
00:12:41
Any type of supplementation, being macro or micro, we want to make sure that inflammation
00:12:47
is low.
00:12:48
And I'll tell you a little bit of story about myself.
00:12:50
I mean, last year I was having insane chronic knee pain, you know, and a lot of people would
00:12:55
have gone back and said, you know, it's just me getting older.
00:12:57
You're 40 now, you're getting older.
00:12:59
But I wasn't honestly, I wasn't willing to accept that.
00:13:02
I was like, there's no possible way that my knees are feeling bad.
00:13:06
I keep myself in optimal health.
00:13:08
Well, my blood work came back and I had high levels of inflammation.
00:13:12
And so what did we do?
00:13:14
We went through a detox, we got the proper micro supplementation embedded in my day to day
00:13:20
structure, and now I'm pain free.
00:13:23
I don't complain about my knees.
00:13:24
I think Doctor.
00:13:25
Alessi can attest to that.
00:13:26
So it's something that you have to keep telling yourself.
00:13:31
These are not age related symptoms.
00:13:33
You are a product of your environment.
00:13:35
And if you take yourself out of that environment and become knowledgeable on these
00:13:39
things, you can feel better.
00:13:41
And the last thing is, you know, about longevity, preventing that metabolic disorder,
00:13:46
that metabolic disease, which pretty much encompasses everything here.
00:13:50
But going back to the gut, we we talked a lot about the gut and a lot of these Health Decoded
00:13:55
podcast leading up into this.
00:13:57
And some of the machinery we're getting is really it it focuses back to that.
00:14:01
Let's get the data.
00:14:02
Let's get the blood work, get the data, with the DEXA scan, and all these things and come
00:14:07
back home and build out the game plan and the infrastructure that we need to become the most
00:14:11
optimal humans.
00:14:13
So the DEXA scan allows us to identify those risks early.
00:14:18
And what's really cool about the DEXA scan, unlike blood work so we need to get blood work,
00:14:23
but the DEXA scan actually shows us things on demand.
00:14:26
So we get those things back, so you'll get them almost within that day.
00:14:32
You'll get the DEXA scan as far as what the visibility that you're showing in your body and
00:14:38
those risk factors, And then you can watch your trajectory over time.
00:14:41
So as we build out this this this game plan, you can really we we then are gonna bring you
00:14:48
back under the DEXA, and we're gonna see these things evolve.
00:14:51
And it's a progression of how it's making you feel better.
00:14:54
So your health plan is just actually working at that point real time.
00:15:01
As you as you put your emphasis on the plan and and just stay committed to the plan, you
00:15:07
actually are seeing these real time results, which is a really, really cool thing.
00:15:11
As you come back from the clinic, you get a it's almost like you get to see this data come
00:15:15
back, real time, right?
00:15:16
Not only in your blood work, but physically too, you'll actually see the scans.
00:15:21
So think of it like your call it call it your health financial statement.
00:15:28
You wanna you wanna think of it like you you boldly say that.
00:15:32
Your muscle, this equals your assets.
00:15:35
Your muscle equals your asset assets.
00:15:37
You gotta think it like your bank account.
00:15:38
You gotta make deposits.
00:15:40
Your visceral visceral fat, that's your debt.
00:15:43
You're taken away.
00:15:44
You might be taken away some years.
00:15:45
How do we get away from that?
00:15:46
How we lighten up.
00:15:48
Bone density, foundational stability.
00:15:52
Everyone says, you know, I heard somebody say the other day that like the majority of people
00:15:58
that fall after, I think it was the age of around 75 that break a hip, You know what it's
00:16:04
due to, doctor Alessi?
00:16:06
It's actually area rugs.
00:16:09
They get up, they they trip on an area rug because there's area rugs in the house and they
00:16:13
break a hip.
00:16:14
Now area rugs are one of the top Yeah.
00:16:18
Top things that actually kill the elderly because their bone density, they don't have the
00:16:23
foundation for it, and they break a hip, and they never can get back after breaking a hip.
00:16:27
So how do you get ahead of the game before it's too late?
00:16:31
And so that's what we're talking about here is just getting that data back.
00:16:34
We would never run a business blind, yet most people run their health as if they don't see
00:16:39
it.
00:16:39
They just run it completely blind with blindfolders over their eyes.
00:16:43
So that's what I'm most excited about this DEXA is that we are actually going to be giving
00:16:47
people this data along with the blood work and everything else that we do, and then they can
00:16:53
see true measurable results from that.
00:16:56
Yeah.
00:16:57
That's awesome, man.
00:16:58
You know, the other thing is also like, it's data, but then data is only as good as what you
00:17:03
do with it.
00:17:04
And so every time we talk about everything we do, whether it's x rays, whether it's blood
00:17:08
work, whether it's any other kind of gut testing, It's all about gathering data so that
00:17:12
we can do something with that.
00:17:14
Now if it's to correct something, yeah, number one, have to fix what's broken.
00:17:18
But then it becomes prevention at that point.
00:17:21
So it's like, where you and I are is like we're always just like running blood work and fine
00:17:25
tuning running blood work and fine tuning.
00:17:27
Don't have some level of chronic disease we're trying to solve.
00:17:30
But we are always trying to stay ahead of the game because I don't want that to ever get to
00:17:34
the point of where I'm back there where I was, you know, when I had a thyroid issue.
00:17:37
So it's it's always like I am diligent about that.
00:17:40
And the DEXA just adds more value to that gives me a better outlook on my health.
00:17:44
Like I'm excited to run it on myself every three months.
00:17:47
It'll also be like, really cool to see that you know, the peptides and things that we are
00:17:51
working with, to see the outcomes of those in real time as well.
00:17:55
And the big thing man is like the injury prevention and performance side.
00:18:00
So I mean it's it's really powerful in the world of orthopedics sports performance because
00:18:05
it's going to show us that imbalance, if there is any muscle imbalance, asymmetries may be
00:18:10
created with patterns, and you can learn what weaknesses you have to prevent some kind of
00:18:15
injury.
00:18:15
Like specifically for athletes, maybe things like tears or their predisposition to have some
00:18:20
kind of injury.
00:18:21
And then for for the general population, of the people who are listening to this show, like
00:18:26
adults trying to stay active, how to reduce certain injuries while exercising.
00:18:30
Hey, you have pretty low bone density, we're going to make sure we're not overloading your
00:18:34
spine by doing a bunch of back squats.
00:18:36
We're probably going to focus on you know general body pulls and things like that and
00:18:41
then strengthening the areas based on where the weaknesses are to protect the joints and so you
00:18:46
know when it comes to that's more on like the physical side when it comes like the internal
00:18:50
side so let's talk about the internal side and this is really where where I like to get into
00:18:54
is the visceral fat is associated with insulin resistance type two diabetes, hypertension,
00:19:00
heart disease, inflammatory disorders, cognitive, basically everything every metabolic
00:19:04
disease people have can be tracked back to high levels of visceral fat and inflammation.
00:19:10
And so the DEXA is going to give us insight into metabolic health even when like labs look
00:19:16
normal.
00:19:17
Say we ran labs on someone and we're like, this is, you know, looking good, but then they have
00:19:21
a DEXA scan done and it's like wow, visceral fat is really abundant.
00:19:25
Then it's like, okay, how do we work on that to avoid these labs getting out of range down the
00:19:30
line.
00:19:31
And so it's always just more data.
00:19:33
And so you know, think the biggest one is what we call like, like the skinny fat.
00:19:37
We see a lot of that where people are not necessarily obese or overweight, maybe they
00:19:41
naturally run like like more like skinny, like ectomorphic if you will, but they hold a lot of
00:19:50
visceral fat in the abdominal area, which can be again disease causing.
00:19:54
You wouldn't catch that with a BMI, you wouldn't really catch that with standard blood
00:19:58
work, but you would catch that with a DEXA scan.
00:20:01
So this is how we're going to catch disease before it becomes disease.
00:20:05
So you know, again, like, why don't you go through because we kind of like set this up,
00:20:09
how we're going to integrate it, patients who are already patients and understand the way we
00:20:14
operate.
00:20:15
Yeah, no, this is what I'm like super excited about in terms of how this is gonna be built
00:20:21
into our, specifically our functional medicine side.
00:20:24
So we probably are gonna be using it for the physical medicine side, but I'd like to this
00:20:30
purpose alone in this episode, stay on the physical or functional medicine side, because
00:20:35
this is essentially you come in, you actually are going to be doing, maybe you're a new
00:20:38
patient, it's going to be a day one consultation with a baseline scan.
00:20:42
So you would just have feedback right then and there.
00:20:45
Let's say then you become a functional medicine patient in our clinic, we build that off of a
00:20:50
customized nutrition plan.
00:20:52
So you get blood work, you have that baseline scan done, and then we start optimizing from
00:20:57
there.
00:20:57
We typically take you through a detox very early on.
00:21:00
Usually people that are coming into our clinic have some sort of associated gut related
00:21:05
ailment that Doctor.
00:21:06
Alessi dives deep into by getting back this DEXA scan and the blood work.
00:21:12
So, but then we expect that.
00:21:14
So we expect this out of our patients to repeat this every three to six months, ideally every
00:21:18
three months, because we see progress in quarterly increments.
00:21:22
And so we want to make sure you're top of mind, like you see that level of progression through
00:21:27
your entire functional medicine treatment.
00:21:29
So that's what we actually look forward to, is that every 90 days you have a checkpoint.
00:21:34
That's like the flagship checkpoint.
00:21:36
You have almost like a progress exam where you'll come in and you'll actually do that.
00:21:40
And one of our team of doctors actually sit down and actually walk you through what you've
00:21:44
done.
00:21:45
If you haven't put in the work, it's gonna show it.
00:21:47
If you have put in the work, it will show it.
00:21:49
And so it's tracked with measurable progress over time.
00:21:52
So we ask that you do it every three months.
00:21:55
And then we pair these DEXA findings with some really cool things that we are doing at the
00:22:00
clinic currently, some new and some that we've been doing for a while.
00:22:04
So hormone testing, we do hormone testing along with the blood work.
00:22:08
We do comprehensive exams.
00:22:10
We do a lot of stool, work right now and our gut zoomer test.
00:22:14
And we do a number of different tests right now that are associated to just getting a
00:22:18
comprehensive look at the body and then specifically the gut too.
00:22:21
But we can look what one or the other, we look dive deep into the gut.
00:22:25
Like really Doctor.
00:22:26
Alessi focuses on there first.
00:22:28
And that tells him a lot of signals of what he needs to focus on second and third and fourth
00:22:32
and fifth.
00:22:33
So the hormone testing is a big thing that's usually layered in primarily with gut testing
00:22:39
first, hormone testing second, and then we go into the micronutrient testing.
00:22:43
So we've actually partnered up with a company called Apex, Apex Labs, and Apex actually does
00:22:48
all of our, supplementation.
00:22:50
And what's really cool about Apex is that Apex knows the source and the derivative of all
00:22:56
their supplementation.
00:22:57
So it's not something you go on Amazon and buy and you had you don't know what's in it, and
00:23:02
it's definitely not the right stuff because they just did a study on all these Amazon,
00:23:06
supplementations that I think they have, about tenth of the 10% of actual ingredients actually
00:23:12
in the supplements.
00:23:13
Right?
00:23:14
Very, very low.
00:23:15
You can you can check me on that, but I know it's low.
00:23:18
So the quality of these supplements that you're buying on like Amazon and then even sometimes
00:23:23
in Walmart are not what you're getting.
00:23:25
So we use the most specific micronutrients along with that testing of actually the we can
00:23:33
even go break it down to the genetics that actually your body actually physically needs.
00:23:38
That's how detailed we can get with it.
00:23:40
But we wanna look at the macro and micronutrients of how you're operating on a
00:23:43
daily basis.
00:23:44
We believe in a high protein diet.
00:23:46
So we stray towards that.
00:23:48
Hey, what type of protein are you getting in on a daily basis?
00:23:51
What's our protein goal?
00:23:53
And then also, I go into this because I have to say it is strength training and resistance
00:23:58
training is a non negotiable three days a week minimum.
00:24:01
You want to have forty five minutes of getting that heart rate variability up and getting that
00:24:06
resistance training built in.
00:24:08
So we help and guide you along through that process as well.
00:24:11
And we have a couple different programmings that we offer to our patients that we can
00:24:15
actually hand off and they can follow that roadmap as well.
00:24:18
So strength and mobility assessments are imperative, and it's something that it shows
00:24:23
true and measurable results when it comes to this DEXA.
00:24:26
So if you blend all these in and then you're coming back to your checkpoints every ninety
00:24:31
days and then you see the progression of a year in 2026, I'll tell you what, you are look going
00:24:36
to look like a completely different human.
00:24:40
I mean, gives the complete picture of both an internal and external health assessment.
00:24:46
And here's something I'm really proud of.
00:24:48
We are only one of the few locations in Tampa Bay with in house DEXA scanning.
00:24:53
So most people have to go to hospitals or research facilities really that have this in
00:24:57
their practice.
00:24:58
But our objective is to really get the data behind everything so that we can provide you
00:25:04
the most comprehensive functional medicine experience.
00:25:08
That's my word of the year experience that you possibly can have anywhere else.
00:25:14
Yeah.
00:25:14
That's awesome.
00:25:15
And that's that's the exciting part.
00:25:16
Right?
00:25:16
It's like this stuff used to be so out of reach, and that's why a lot of people never did
00:25:20
it or don't know what it is, but making it accessible to people, man, like more retail
00:25:24
ish.
00:25:25
So one thing that I'm I'm going to tease this, I'm not going to give it all away yet, but
00:25:30
something I'm working on.
00:25:31
And anyone who's been to the clinic or listened to the podcast knows that the way we operate is
00:25:37
very much focused on protocols, because a protocol is a system that can be repeated now
00:25:43
and then customized per person.
00:25:45
But basically everything we do has a foundational protocol to it and then we
00:25:49
customize it based on the person's goals and needs.
00:25:52
And so I'm actually working right now on creating a protocol that basically bundles the
00:25:57
DEXA data and what we call our NutriPro genetic panel, which is kind of what you alluded to.
00:26:04
It's basically an entire genetic panel that reads your genome and how you respond to
00:26:09
nutrition and lifestyle and supplementation and all these things.
00:26:13
And then with those two things combined, we can completely dial in someone's like your
00:26:18
lifestyle.
00:26:19
Like I can straight up tell you how you need to live your life for optimal health.
00:26:23
Hey, you need to wake up at this time ideally get this amount of sleep.
00:26:27
Caffeine should be within this window not after this time.
00:26:30
You should work out at this time of day.
00:26:31
It's better for your genes.
00:26:32
All of that.
00:26:33
It's actually it's awesome.
00:26:34
And so for people who are into that or people who need guidance, like it's done for you, then
00:26:39
you just have to do it.
00:26:40
And that's everything we do is like let us do the hard work and build it for you.
00:26:44
You just have to then follow through.
00:26:46
And so look look forward to that coming.
00:26:49
We're going to share more on that later.
00:26:50
But you know, in summary here, we're just really excited to bring this on.
00:26:55
I think this is going to provide tremendous value for people.
00:26:57
And so with that, you know, with the new year here and everyone's setting resolutions and
00:27:02
everyone's trying to kind of take health seriously at this time of year, obviously, we
00:27:07
don't want that to fall off.
00:27:09
But we are going to be doing something a little bit different.
00:27:12
We're offering some discounted rates on DEXA scans, almost like preliminaries, if you will.
00:27:17
So we're going to have some discounted rates for single scans, more reduced rates for like
00:27:21
membership packages and quarterly scans with that coaching oversight that we talked about.
00:27:27
So anyone who wants to learn more about this, I recommend you reach out.
00:27:31
You can contact us infoalessiafxhealth dot com or you can you know, obviously call the clinic.
00:27:36
And you know, again, is perfect if you're starting a new training program, you just sign
00:27:40
up with a coach or you're like man, want to get my fat loss under control this year, build
00:27:44
muscle, maybe you're recovering from an injury, maybe you're like focusing on longevity and
00:27:49
prevention this year, and you want the most accurate health data.
00:27:52
Well, of guessing, measure it.
00:27:55
And so that's what this is for.
00:27:57
And so the truth is, your future self depends on what you build today.
00:28:02
Chronic disease doesn't start when the symptoms arise, it starts today.
00:28:07
And so the DEX is not just about numbers, it's about clarity, direction and ownership over
00:28:13
your health.
00:28:13
And that's something we preach in our mission statement is giving you the power over your
00:28:18
health.
00:28:18
So if you're in Tampa, and you want to schedule a scan, want to learn about our memberships and
00:28:23
reach out, we would love to help you get your baseline, build a strategy for the year ahead
00:28:27
so that 2026 is the best year of your life.
